Aldo's knee was incredibly timed! It was genius!
Paul Harris' takedown to guard pull to heel hook was another stroke of genius!
Edson Barboza's friggin spinning heel kick was amazing!
Belfort choking Rumble was sweet justice. Tired of that dude trying to cut 2 weight classes.
And it's cool to see Gonzaga using his bread and butter to get his win.

A lot of great fights on this card. I think I liked Belfort's fight the most though because after all the weight BS he was able to shut Rumble down like I wanted. Silva got screwed. I wasn't rooting for Aldo and I'm disapointed Mendes lost but gawd damn that was a beautiful knee.
I won't take anything away from Aldo because that knee was a well timed thing of beauty but it might not of happened if he wouldn't of grabbed the fence. Mendes had that takedown secured, I would of really liked to see how Aldo handled being underneath Mendes.Quote:

there wouldn't have been any difference if he didn't grab the fence. mendez still had control of him and took him down before aldo popped right back up. so if he didn't grab the fence he would have still popped back up.
There is a very good chance the takedown stopped by holding the fence would of stuck and Aldo would of been held down. The one he stood up from he was dragged down, and the one he grabbed the fence for would of been a slam, likely into side control or maintained the back contol he had. Mendes had him almost parallel to the top of the cage and nearly flattened out when he lifted him up for the takedown, that would of been much harder for him to pop up from.Quote:

I'll hide my bias a bit. The argument could be made both ways. It could be made that it was good reffing. A ref is supposed to stand it up from inactivity. Rumble clearly wanted to replay his Hardy strategy. The ref might've sensed this and said, nah buddy, you're gonna have to fight.Quote:

What you need to understand is that the first toss, especially this slam Mendes was attempting works best on first attempt. Aldo knew he was going down, so he panicked and did the knee jerk reaction of grabbing the fence. Yes the second attempt failed, Aldo is a good enough fighter to imminently recognize whats happening and change his stance.Quote:

The thing is, even if the ref deducted a point right away with no warning, you're still left with a KO finish in the 1st round. There was nothing about the grab that warranted a ref breaking the position. You either take a point or give a warning. GSP was a better fighter than Mendes and he's evolved much faster. GSP was also more dangerous. I don't think Mendes will improve as fast as GSP did. That takedown happened with a minute and a half on the clock. Mendes hasn't put away anybody from top position in a minute and a half. The outcome of the fight would not have been much different. Mendes would've just gotten a TD and gotten into the 2nd round. The fence grab isn't as big a deal as you guys think. Aldo outclassed him the whole match.
Nothing in that fight makes me think that the fight would be much different in a rematch or if the fence grab didnt' happen.
That's fine, but Mendes' wrestling wasn't good enough to take Aldo down. Mendes tried 7 takedowns and didn't get any, unless you count the 1 second that Aldo's knees hit the floor before he popped right back up.Quote:
