I only ask this because I'm starting jiu jitsu very soon and I'm over weight, so I just want to know what you guys experienced during your first couple of months and how much weight you lost.
I'm 5'7 and 210 pounds, I don't eat fast food and I'm trying to stop eating late at night.
If you are just starting jiu jitsu you will be focussing more technique, but once you get rolling it depends on how often you train and how intense you are training. Good luck brotha! Next time your in Miami lemme know.

snap dude i lost 15 pounds in 3 weeks but i'm a fat mess to begin with just go enjoy it and welcome
In about five months of jiu jitsu i lost about 20 pounds.
I was 320... dropped to 215.... now I'm back up to 250
I started MMA training and BJJ at the same time but concentrated more on BJJ I guess, In about a year lost 40-50 pounds of fat and probably gained 15-20 pounds of muscle since i started also about 1.5 -2 years, concentrating on getting stronger now though :)
i'm 5'8 and i was about 205, i slowly dropped down to 195ish but i cleaned up my diet a bit and got a few more workouts into my week and now i'm 187 and dropping :)

20lbs so far, its deffinately helping me lose all the weight i gained after my surgery
I've put on 20lbs worth of muscle.
Went from 190ish to 150. Got a fight coming up Feb 11th @145 and I'm not cutting any water.
I lost about 50 lbs the 1st 8 months and then started eating like I did when I was 15 and put on about 30 lbs in the next year's time and I'll prolly cut about 10 lbs for my next tournament.
Was 220lbs, now I'm 175lbs.
Awesome. Well i was 165 in 9th grade and after i dropped out in 11th grade i stopped going outside and became a video game freak and blew up to 205 - 210. I'm going to take a before and after picture to see the results. Haha.
And thanks for the invite woolsey, maybe one day if i'm up there i will stop by.
The first class I had was in the military in 1992. We were all in shape lmao. However, severe back and shoulder injuries combined with some massive ptsd and other issues caused me to balloon to 382 lbs. a few years back. I was still doing gi but my game was never evolving because of the weight. I started nogi and lost 212 lbs. in 365 days through training and diet. Now, I find myself at a comfortable 194 with a few years of maintenace on the loss.
5'6" was 280 before. Started mma training for about a year with god diet dropped to about 190 had back injures 3 times now back to 240. Still stringer then I was. I only train jj now but I have to go pro this year so switching to mma again. Hope to fight at 185 in a few months work my way to 175 walking around weight at 5'6"
I would like to get down to a strong 170.

I have two students that started about 5 and 8 months ago respectively and have both lost 40lbs since they started

I went from 187ish to 155...probably cld go down even more if I didnt always have the munchies;)
When I first found out about 10th planet 3 years ago I weighed 195Ilbs doing mad weights, but now after going on and off of JJ and doing solid training since Nov 2010 I weigh 139 , I can say though that another main reason I lost so much weight was having to live on our own with my bro and having to actually buy your own food and cook it you tend to skip a few meals here and there just to save up and pay light lol
Went from 186 to 173 after 4 months of training. My diet has much improved since then, I've packed on some muscle, and my flexibility is at the point where I can put both legs behind my head with ease.
This is a beautiful sport.
Started out at 95kg (209lbs) and dropped to 80 (176lbs), then tore my mcl and damaged my acl and had to do it all again.
That's 15kg (33lbs) I've lost.
And I'm mid way to getting to 75 kg (165 lbs) for the tournament I'm running in a month.
But the real story is how much stronger and agile i've become since starting this jitz thing, plus the confidence you build from it.
The thing I love the most is when people who don't roll watch me and afterwards say "How the hell do you move like that", always makes me smile.
I weighed 305 at 6'2" then I started jiujitsu,working out,and now I am down to 197 which took about a year and a few months.
I will let you guys know when i started. Probably sometime in early march.
