My LA/HQ Trip Journal

I figure I'll keep updating this post everyday to let everyone know how my experience has been :) if that bores you then you don't have to read! haha

Day 1: Flew in last night and it was my first flight ever. I thought I would be terrified but I actually didn't do to bad. I'm staying at the Hollywood Hills Hotel and it's actually pretty nice. Just a couple of miles away from HQ but in this traffic it might as well be 50 miles. Before class started in the evening, Jamze and I decided to go do some tourist shit. Walk of Fame and such... Hollywood sign... Then straight to class! As soon as I walked in the first person I ran into was Junie Browning! And he was a pretty cool guy... We chatted for a while about random shit and then later on I met him again when the class started. Eddie was in the Hawaiian Gardens tonight so Compella was teaching class. But, after a few minutes I wasn't disappointed at all because Compella made class really interesting and was an excellent teacher :) I ran into a guy named Nathan who had made a long trip to train out here too! awesome timing brotha! I got to meet some of the people I see every day on MTS and it was weird because even though they didn't know who I was, I was decently familiar with them! I was so familiar with the place from MTS that it truly felt like home! Everyone has been incredibly nice and I am excited to get to sleep and go train again tomorrow!

Good idea, looking forward to reading it

Day 2: I'm doing this on my iPhone so forgive any errors I might make. It's only 2:19pm right now so I still have a lot of the day left so I will update day 2 later. But, some great stuff happened and I want to write about it.

I woke up pretty late this morning around 11 oclock and I knew class started at 11:30 so Jamze and I had to hurry! Luckily the Armenian cab drivers are crazy and force there way through traffic! So Eddie shows up to class and most of the class was full of out of towners!!! People from Australia, Switzerland, New Jersey, Oregan, and New Zealand! It made my little trip from Missouri look pathetic haha... So since there were so many people there Eddie wanted to see where we stood so he made us do little matches... Turns out Nathan Orchard is a badass little mofo! I was very impressed with this self taught Ronin! He's a straight up beast! Jamze and a guy named Ryan rolled... And then another guy and myself... I ended up tapping him with a guillotine Marcelo style about halfway through our time limit which was good because I was getting tired because my heart was racing 5 million beats per second with Eddie watching me closely! Lol so then we just find someone and roll for a bit... I rolled with the same guy again and we have a nice roll but then Eddie wanted me to roll with one of his blue belts... Once again I am bit tired... Nerves and such plus body fat so I play chill on this roll... But we had a very nice roll too which ended in no submissions... Then Eddie wanted me to roll with another guy and I finished with a gogoplata... Eddies class was really awesome! Eddie is funny as hell and a very nice guy... In fact once again everyone I run into here is amazingly nice!... Oh taco joint across the street.. Straight up props! That shit was delicious! I have one more class at 8:30 tonight and I'll update afterward! Thanks guys!

PJ got some sweet flexability for a big man!! Niice!!

Pj has really good flexibility for a big guy and ended up pulling off a gogo plata in one his matches, very impressive. And of course, Nathan Orchard is a ninja, but I wasn't too surprised, anyone that can tap Mike Dewitt has got to be an animal. Jaymze gassed really hard in his match and ended up puking, hopefully he gets his head straight the rest of the week. So many out of state nibiru warriors this week, it's gonna be fun tonight :)

Glad you enjoyed class. We set a friendly tone there I think, not alot of ego strutting. I may not be an avid church-goer, but I go to Jiu-Jitsu and I think God is cool with that ;) And if I do end up going to hell for whatever reason, I can arm-bar the shit out of anyone down there, so win-win. Cya 2morrow night.

Day 2 part 2: chapter "PJ gets his ass kicked and loves every second of it"

Rick Marshall came out and shared some great Knowledge from the Mendes Bros. The boys from Vista showed up and I rolled with Richie "boogeyman" Martinez ... a blue belt with 10 months of training and he straight up omoplata'd my ass! definitely Impressive! I got to meet Geo "freakahzoid" Martinez, and Brent Littell (who is crazy good and crazy smooth). I'm completely impressed with everyone! My knee was REALLY acting up today. Old injury flaring up but I was having such a great time I just popped a heavy pain reliever and tried to ignore it the best I could. The class was full of people tonight and everyone is just all around super nice and really great people... big props to everyone. When people refer to 10th planet as a family it's damn true... every one is very welcoming! IF YOU GET THE CHANCE DO IT!!! oh LA... I just bought some sushi at a gas station... a freakin' gas station!?!?! It was pretty fucking nasty sushi but I thought it was badass that shitty sushi was even an option at a gas station. Where I come from the only thing you can get at a gas station is deep fried dead animals in a box or on a stick... I'm going to see the ocean for the first time tomorrow and I promise I will be posting pics soon... I've been trying but my hotels wifi is total shit and cuts out every time I change pages but I will have plenty of pictures to share! I've been bugging everyone for pics!

Hey it was great training with you jamze.

I love reading this. Its so cool to see people come into HQ!! I might stay away from the gas station sushi though. Like Compella i don't go to church, but for me the ocean is the closest thing to it, so enjoy that.

Day 3 part 1: Woke up with my knee screaming at me to not use it... insanely agonizing. So I popped a heavy pain reliever and ignored it again :D lol. So after I feel better and am able to walk Jamze and I call a cab to go see the ocean for the first time! I was really excited! So... the cab driver shows up and he says "where you go?" and we said "we'd like to go to the closest beach but do you know of any good chinese restaurants along the way?" he says "ok I know good place"... 30 dollars later we find ourselves in the middle of Chinatown with no restaurant in sight lol so we got to walking trying to find a place but everything looked pretty... shitty... after about an hour of walking we finally settle for this place called Chinese Friends... and by this time my knee has decided "Pain or not... I quit!" and I was having trouble walking... so despite my extreme want to see the ocean I decided it would be best to abandon it and head back to the hotel. So I won't get to see the ocean this visit but I'll be back soon... I just want to be able to participate in class tonight! So heads up to people... Traffic is crazy out here... I personally don't feel confident driving out here so we didn't rent a car. The bus system is damn confusing... we tried and failed... so we went with cab rides... the down side to this is cabs are expensive as balls out here. But, everything has been definitely worth it... Tonight will be my last night I am able to train at HQ because it turns out the only plane we can catch in order for me to get back in time on friday to pick up my son leaves tomorrow at 2 o'clock... but Three days at HQ has been a dream come true and I will definitely be coming back! :)

Day 3 part 2: Final Day... damn it!
Didn't get to see the ocean... Knee is hurting... got to roll with Eddie.... Perfect fucking day. :D Final class was really nice. We drilled some guillotines and rolling kimuras. Then Eddie had us do our matches in class again. Jamze rolled with Ben Samples I believe his name was... and I went against Junie Browning.. but once again Nathan Orchard proved why he's the number one ronin in his roll! I'm a big fan of Nathan guys! watch out for this dude! I'm telling you! this kid will be a world champion someday! I've had a great time but there were a few disappointments... I was hoping to meet Renato Laranja... I was kinda hoping he would take me under his wing and guide me in the right direction.. lol I was kinda hoping to meet a couple of other people that I didn't get to... but this won't be my last trip to HQ so I'm not too sad about it haha. My trip has inspired me to keep doing what I'm doing. People at home know this but I'm actually a really emotional guy. And I dedicate ounce of free time I have to Jiu Jitsu. And I'll do anything to train. I spent four days sleeping in my van to train with Sean Bollinger and Brian Stuebner at 10th Planet Springfield. But, a lot of times I get really discouraged. I'm really passionate about it and sometimes I get the feeling that I'm wasting my time and I'll never be worth anything in Jiu Jitsu... But, after my trip to HQ I really got to roll around with some really great guys and with Eddie telling me I'm doing great and that he's proud of me is enough for me to feel like I'm doing ok :) Training at HQ has really brought the best out of me and I'm absolutely proud to be a part of this family. Much love to everyone... oh.. one final note... that weird glass pyramid thing in the background of the MTS videos... it's like a big window to the lower floors... HQ is upstairs and if you fall through that then you'll fall right into concrete! haha I just thought I would explain that cuz I've always seen it in MTS videos and wondered what the hell it was.
