guys whats going on with the posts?
Pro debut and he's showboating? I hope he gets KTFO next fight
I thought it was awesome! :)
I found his fight entertaining. I'm a big fan of Roy Jones Jr., Anderson Silva, and Nick Diaz as far as their fighting style goes. So this guy was fun to watch. Showboating is cool IF it is integrated into your game plan. It can be intimidating if someone comes at you with their hands down + dancing and you can't hit him while he's hitting you at will. Don't worry guys, his hands down technique probably won't work at mid tier/high tier levels in the cage so you'll probably get your KTFO wish.
This is what i expected from Diaz v. Condit...
I personally love watching fights like these. Yeah they look cocky.. but if it works.. use it. Anderson Silva, Muhammad Ali, Bones Jones, Mayweather.. They all seem to make this style work for them. I know its considered one of the core rules in fighting to keep your hands up, But when you get someone with enough speed, and then allow them to drop their hands.. if becomes VERY hard to connect a shot on them. Its just science.. the lower your hands, the faster you can bob and weave. Just picture a metronome, it works very much in the same way. The farther up you move the weight, the slower it goes back and forth. Same principal applies to fighting. When you see anderson drop his hands and start dodging punches.. Its not just because he wants to show off, its because that weight distribution allows him to move much quicker. Just like ali used to do when he would box, let his hand drop and just use his movement to dodge punches. There's definitely some tactics being used there. The set back being of course, You get hit much less, but when you DO get hit.. You dont have the cushion of your arm to absorb any of that power, plus you end up looking like an idiot if they knock you out.
Flying armbars, flying gogoplatas, flying knees, spinning backfists, the superman punch, the twister all are considered flashy movies right, but they work =D. Not everyone can or does use them, but isn't it fun to watch them connect?
As my English teacher used to say, "You have to learn the rules before you can get away with breaking them." I'm sure this guy's confidence is backed by years of striking with his hands up, doing everything the right way.
Confidence, that's the game changer. Confidence in your stand-up, your ground game, and your cardio makes you seem invincible. Then the only one who can beat you, is you. I drop a hand when I'm finding range off the jab, but best believe I'm moving my feet and cutting off the angles for power shots while setting up a counter. It's bait; your ready for them to take it cause your looking to spring the trap, I think all that showboating was to set-up his final kick. Had he done a flashy kick like that initially his opponent would've got what he wanted and shot in on him while he was spinning. Fun to watch too, it's entertainment, not an underground Kumite to prove who the best in the world is, it's a show and the fighters who embrace it for what it is will enjoy it alot more.
michael page is a world champion point fighter. Its cool to see his transition to mma. i would love to see raymond daniels give it another go but he got taken down and his jiu jitsu was not good. If a guy like this spent time working on his jiu jitsu and wresteling he would be very tough to deal with!

The same guy doing some crazy 720 spin kick shit in an amateur kickboxing event @ the open. :-)
