How I felt about my 1st training day at...supposably 10th planet hamilton NZ

I was very excited, and I was expecting some sort of structure that would cator people of various skill levels... but there wasn't any... we did 2 technique drills and went for 1 hour of free rolling, there was a slight problem.

we had 2 randoms stroll in who was not part of the lesson, and they just wanted free rolling, one guy had absolutely zero jiu jitsu skill and when I rolled with him he just panic attack and all strength and brutality, gouged me in the eye and wacked me across the nose twice, my eye puffed up and I had to sit out for the next 2 rolling sessions.

the other guy was a wrestler, he just sinched armbars competitively hard and brutal, and I think he hyper extended my elbow a bit, it's pretty sore.

then there was another guy that got me in a rear naked choke, I defended 3x until I slipped from sweat and I tapped early like 10x, he didn't let go he sinched crushed my windpipes and only let go after like the 15th tap.

none of these were regulated. what is going on? I felt my safety was compromised

I wasn't even taught anything remotely 10th planet....

and I was told this wasn't like "official school" it was like an "affiliation"

I'm pretty confused and wasn't too happy about it.

Doesn't sound like 10th Planet... Where were you at? What moon?

Damn man, where the heck did you train? NO ONE could train that way for months and months and have their body last long enough to really progress. Hell, even us guys who train safely with good training partners STILL get injured once in a while. That definitely IS NOT how 10 Do' and you definitely did have your safety compromised. 15th tap before someone released an RNC? Putting newcomers in in a big batch and not closely supervising their free rolls? That's irresponsible coaching/teaching. Sorry you had to go through that and again, training unsafe like that is NOT how 10 Do'. I hope someone on the forums who trains near you gets in contact with you so that you can get some safe, effective, long term training in so you can truly progress. Good luck brother.

Sounds like we got some more posers. Are they advertising as a 10th Planet school? How did you hear about them?

That is messed up. No one should have to put up with that kind of behavior in any school, 10th Planet or otherwise. Denny is always careful to go over the guidelines for safe rolling whenever there is someone new in the class, and I've seen him pull people aside when they didn't get the message the first time. Whoever the instructor was at that school was not doing right by his students.

I'm the one running this gym. Eddie was in New Zealand in December and EDDIE himself mentioned at the seminar that I was on the way to open a 10th planet school that's all I'm not promoting it as being 10th planet Hamilton right now since it's not official...

So let's hear my side of the story and you guys should go check "HomasterX" on youtube before taking his word for it LOL

Yesterday we re-opened our club "Fighter Factory" and a bunch of my guys are entering a grappling competition on Saturday so I went over some guard passes and we worked on some Marcelo Garcia setups (far side armbar, to north/south choke to near armbar to north/south choke) I broke down in 3 parts and then we went on rolling. We've been focusing on our top game and wrestling ( We've go a multiple times national champ and multiple Oceania champ coach) lately due to the competition being only 3 minute long matches

Eddie has met Andrew at the seminar so he knows. You guys should chill two seconds before busting my nuts !!! Check your facts first!
ANYWAYS that random guy that "strolled in" is actually a blue belt that competes and has been training for a long time. He got there a bit late due to work so the guy knows what he was doing! LOL

Last night there was 10 people on the mat ranging from a total beginner to a pro MMA fighter and they all had a blast!

Nobody's safety was at risk! Even little 120lbs girls train with us so WTF people...

I've got national champs in wrestling, pro MMA fighters, average Joes, seasoned jiu jitsu competitors from different clubs training with me and NONE I repeat NONE of them ever complained about my classes! My training methods and classes have been the same since day one!

That's what we do. You guys are far too happy to jump on the hate wagon!

Also to keep the record straight Andrew told me that he had several years of experience (If I recall correctly 5 years)
And he also told me that he was running an MMA school and claims to train in 20 different martial arts

I fucking hate doing this but my credibility and integrity as a martial artist/coach/ person/ jiu jitsu fanatic and loyal nibiru warrior has been attacked so fuck it I'll name and shame.

None of my guys went any harder on him than they would have with someone else! I trust my boys to take care of each other and the new guys (experienced or not) Jiu Jitsu ain't playing card it's a contact sport and shit happens! Who hasn't been squeezed a bit funny and got poked in the eye unintentionally? I had my big toe broken by accident and torn ligaments (knee and wrist) by accidents! Black eyes by accident... The list can go on and on....

To be fair, a guy has complaints. We look up the gym. It's not official. Can't blame people for putting 2 and 2 together.

Other than that, talk to the guy and get both sides of the story. Eye gouges and over cranking armbars are a bad look no matter what. You need to address that.

But I'm glad that you're on the boards and willing to clear up the issue.

That's what I would think is the smartest route. Personally, I hate when "in gym" stuff hits forums. That needs to be handled in the gym.

I can completely back up what John said. Andrew has had no formal training and has been training martial arts (including jiu jitsu) at his house for the last 4 years. He has supposedly coached mma at the local university but once i rolled with him last night i realised he is a complete poser. My roll lasted about a minute after him sitting in my guard and managing to fall on his back with his legs crossed in some sort of double lotus position. Yes, this did confuse the fuck out of me. Somehow his nose got hurt, don't ask me how, this dude is an all round enigma. so we sat out for a minute then we continued to roll. I took his back and choked him. he tapped i let go. Thats all. i did not hold it for 10 taps, i have never done that and never will because it's a shitty thing to do.

This dude needs to sort his shit out and realise martial arts isnt for him. HomasterX on youtube if you want to see this douche in action. I have trained with John and the club for long enough to know it is a safe friendly environment and i think that Andrew is trying to give us a bad name. The truth is out... peace and fuck you andrew

I've been there since day one and made 3 month long trips to HQ every year since 08 and the only time I couldn't make it we managed to bring Eddie in NZ for a seminar. I ain't going nowhere and we'll get to the bottom of this!

Fighter Factory is an awesome place to train. I have been with John since March last year and I am happy to say that he has been an awesome trainer. He doesn't teach too fast. We drill maybe 3 techniques for a week or so or until he is happy with our progress. He supports us by braking down the moves and only allows us to do moves safely. There are no ego's in our gym. Everyone is very humble at our gym and no one person is ever out to prove anything by hurting or elevating themselves at someone else's expense.

When I rolled with the person that has started this hate towards us I asked him how long he had been training for. he told me " 5 years" as well as that apparently he teaches striking at a local fitness gym here in Hamilton, New Zealand.

When we were drilling the moves he continued to tell me what to do and he actually gave me some good advice. " I honestly thought he was awesome based on the advice he gave me". This guy is 23 years old and is definitely in the 100kg club. he is not small. When I rolled with him I too like another guy in our gym who is 17 years old and must be around 50 - 60 kgs managed to get his back and allow us to choke him out. He didn't once defend EFFECTIVELY. He tried to use strength over technique. As far as tapping 10x is concerned, firstly I didn't feel his tap, secondly his hands were free so it wasn't like he could tap hard or slap my arms. I did not try to hurt this guy. I was not trying to make him look like an idiot. I think sometimes when you go to a new gym and people ask you if you have any experience they can sometimes feel intimidated and feel the need to over talk themselves leaving others with false information about their actual skill.

This guy has serious issues with delussions of grandure. And the fact that he has gone this far to post this up on 10th Planet speaks volumes about this guy. I am embarrassed for John who has worked his ass off to build his gym in Hamilton. John has dedicated his time to his students and does nothing but give.

Please don't judge us if you don't know us.

The Gracie's will let him get a belt online and everyone will be happy. 10th Planet is competition based, while Gracie online academy is tech memorization. Different strokes for different folks. Eitherway if he goes to a Gracie school he will still be expected to roll ;)

YAYA!! Half an hour later & a few "polite" words exchanged with the computer in my quest to register myself on here simply so I can comment on the whole "Andrew versus fighter factory Hamilton saga"... Firstly, I don't wrestle or grapple or anything like that. I train with Fighter Factory for fitness so I can keep up with my 8 kids LOL. I've seen what goes on at Fighter factory as my 2 teenage sons attended a few BJJ classes, they had no training ever in any kind of martial arts previously!! At all times they were safe! they came home with a few bumps & moans, but this was what is expected in contact sport... As learners they were coached properly, effectively & SAFELY!! & the only reason they stopped BJJ was because the hot, sweaty bodies grossed them out LMAO! But they still continue to attend the Fighter Factory fitness classes & we stay to watch for a bit after our workout! I have seen the u-tube thread that Andrew has posted & read all the comments regarding his thoughts, & quite frankly for someone that claims to have 5 years of martial arts training, teaches martial arts at the local university & is a blue belt I think Andrew you need to take a big cup of harden the F#%K up, everyone involved in any type of contact sports has injuries! You chose to continue with the sport, you put your body under that stress... if you can't handle it!! Then don't do it!! Also Andrew did you not stop to think that before slandering a good gym & teacher internationally, that maybe the better wiser man would have approached the teacher during or after class? Not only have your actions screamed dishonorable, childish & thoughtless but you have put some very good people in a difficult position that they have no reason to be in!! Lose the ego!!
