Does anyone have any suggestions on how to track students to be sure they are paying?

We are having a problem with a lot of students showing up to class who are not signed up or are in the rears on paying. The loss of revenue is bad, it's not fair to the students who are paying and most importantly its a real liability issue. Currently we just use a computer program and a sign in sheet but this is not working very well at all. We are located inside a big fitness center that has over 6000 members. We are thinking about using a computer program that has a card reader like the fitness center does
so they literally have to be under contract and current or their card is declined and they can not participate in the class. anyone else doing this? any suggestions? Thanks.

Card reader thing is what most every gym does now a days, but if you don't have the money for that, you can simply make a list of who is paying and up to date, and just do a role call.

auto-pay on paypal. just like the pro membership here

We use ABC Financial they set everything up and even track down delinquent members

you can just use cards. no card no class. stamp date of membership turn into instructor after class, he checks them and puts them in front desk. students must grab card before class or else they cannot enter.

RFID Chip under the skin of your members

we use direct draft...so they dont have a choice :) lol

A card works well. They have to swipe before entering. It serves another benefit of showing who's getting rounds in. Some guys disappear and come back expecting to get promoted. Sorry man, gotta put those reps in.

Loan shark

Strict enforcement. Send an email to everyone about the issue and that u will now enforce it. This shit aint free

Sign up for mindbody, they charge way less commission than any other card billing systems and its really easy to keep track of who is current.

Just have someone sit up front and sign people into classes, if they aren't current it'll immediately let you know. You can also set up direct deposits and sell merch through it.

thanks Ken, We currently have an auto checking acct deduct and credit card auto bill set up but you would not believe how many folks do not have a credit card or checking account around here, It's like we have turned back the hands of time around here. I have no idea how they get through life! Thanks.

Asfint.com works well all kinds of report options to track stuff
you can do weekly monthly quarterly and you can run a proshop thru it

You need a manager to sit up front be a dick about money and keep track of everybody.

mindbody has a great deal on their programs.... not too much a month, but worth not having to deal with the headache.

I wouldn't want Mike Tyson to get in free but it would be great brand name recognition!

We all grab our card (made at kinko's for dirt cheap) on the way into class.
the instructor picks them up as we line up and puts them up front to log them (later if they're too busy)
they keep track of everything using mindbody.
some use auto debit.
i pay in cash as to avoid the grid.

the card system is cheap and easy regardless of using mind body.

Thanks to everyone for all the great ideas, I was torn between several such as the RFID chip under the skin and the guillotine the delinquents at the door policy but have went with the card scan system, I especially like the idea that Rick pointed out of being able to track who has been putting in reps and at which classes. Everything is installed and I'm just waiting for the key cards to hit any day now. I think this should fix the problem. no green light after scan, no admission, no exceptions. Too much liability to have folks in there who are not suppose to be there. Thanks again for all the ideas.
