Cant wait to meet any 10p brothers in the New England area!
What're you traveling to Boston for, anything in particular?
Some cable tv convention out there. Last year is was in Chicago and I tried to catch up with 10p-chi but i failed to. This time I'll make it a point.
Well welcome to Massachusetts in May, Rick! As far as I know, there's no official 10th Planet affiliated gyms or hotboxes in MA, but there's plenty of good jiu-jitsu to soak in while you're here. Feel free to come by my school Best Way BJJ located on the south shore and drop in!
Of course, we're a Gi school with only two days dedicated to No Gi (Friday night and Sunday open mat), but the lineage speaks for itself. My instructor was taught by De La Riva through brown belt and earned his black belt directly from Ricardo Liborio. He's still very close friends with both of them, and every year Liborio comes to MA for a seminar, which I think he's also trying to do with DLR. His first visit to teach a seminar for Best Way was this past September.
Thank you Nick. I'd be delighted to visit! I'll bring my gi as well. I looked on the map and it shows Herb Chao in the area as well. So looking forward to good times Sir!
Sounds good! A training partner of mine who's also a blue belt is a member on the forum, but admittedly doesn't post a lot if at all. However, he's a much more avid follower of the system and practices it in training (even with the Gi). In fact, he's been showing a lot of the guys the process behind a Japanese Neck Tie to great reviews, as they're usually very intrigued about the specifics behind it.
Me and a few other 10th Planet friendly folks train in and out of Harvard School and Sensei Louie's in North Andover MA. Not sure whereabouts you are but if you're looking for some mat time I can see if any of our classes coincide with your schedule! Enjoy New England!
Wish we had this forum when i lived in boston! I used to train at wai kru in alston. Everybody knew me as the rubber guard guy. Lol
Enjoy your time in boston!
Herb Chao and Nick Powers.. I will do everything in my power to go and train with you guys.. What are night hours and weekend times you guys do your training? By day I should be at the Boston Convention and Expo Center. I'll probably stay at a hotel around that area. By night, I'm sure I can taxi to where I got to get to.. I went to Boston about 7 years ago, and if I remember correctly, the driving was not ideal there. But then again, we didn't have google maps and iphones then. See you all soon!
My school's training hours at night are Monday 8-9 (Technique Intensive), Tuesday and Thursday 730-9 (Advanced BJJ Gi), Wednesday 7-8 (Open Mat), and Friday 6-7 (No Gi).
Usually (and recently) for the Harvard Self Defense Club we train Sun 1pm-3pm Jiu Jitsui, Wed 6:00pm-7:00ish Wrestling, and Thurs 7:00pm-9:00pm (I think) jiujitsui (and did some standup before too). I usually try to go SUn and Wed, with some Thurs hit or miss depending on whether I have a business meeting that night or not. For the North Andover school we train Tues 7:30pm-8:30pm Grappling, and then Thurs 7:30pm-8:30pm boxing/standup (I usually only go Tues here). My hunch for you is that Sun is a good spot for you to visit me and the Harvard folks, for Wed and Thurs you're welcome to either tag along with me or visit Nick (depends when u get off work I take it).
Nick I'll have to visit you sometime as well!
Mario lol yeah don't you love it when u move away and then new stuff gets built? Oh well....
On the weekend, it's Saturday 11-12 (although that may be considered Team Training) and Sunday 10-12 Open Mat, with the first hour being dedicated to Gi, second to No Gi.
Thanks Nick and Herb. I'm sure I'll be able to make a session everyday while I'm there. It'll be good times for sure.
I just might bring a crew down to compete in Boston. Very cool city. :)
Do it do it Louis! What competition is it? I'm gonna try to fit in the adcc trials but I may be asking for too much with work and all.
You can always go bar hopping in Yankees gear and test your jiu jitsu on drunken trouble makers. Actually that might be a bad idea, high chance of getting stabbed or jumped
Damn, the Grapplers Quest in Boston is only in September. Sorry, I got my dates wrong. But I might go to that one anyways.
There's a grappling tournament in Brookline on May 5th (Sat) very cheap prices, and also one May 12th Sat in Dorchester (I'm promoting product there and may compete myself). So if anyone is looking for an excuse to come by let me know I can post the link and info....
