We do the same as most BJJ schools...yellow, orange, green, blue...blue is like adult blue so, must be 16 to earn that. You can give out belts and do stripes or ...I do patches and T-shirts:) There seems to be a cross over more with kids ranks to no gi like: white is beginner, yellow intermediate and orange and green advanced so be aware how you rank eps. for the kids that compete. right now the highest ranking kid is either Tory Davila or Julian Garcia as far as I know.
You guys got some rug rats training?
If you have any more questions regarding kids stuff let me know:)
Thanks
Kim
Ant Lopez is 17and is a purple.
Our kids classes are in the gi and we use a belt system similar to Gracie Barra but with only 4 stripes per belt.
Four stripes per belt? As in White with 4 sripes, Yellow with 4 stripes, etc?
Seems like a lot of stripes to me, but I have a different background.
some of the 10p chicago kids are real MONSTERS, they scary I coudln't imagine competing against them at that age!!!
thank you KIM very valuble info. How long in each belt?
i just have two kids! super cute and super tough, but i was wondering how to manage the ranking situation with them. I also thought about trainning them with the GI like mr.Tim but i really dont like and dont know about the gi so it would be unfair to the youngsters
Nathan, just to be clear Hotbox Leaders cannot rank others, only the affiliate instructors can rank their students. However with your recomendation your sponsor instructor could evaluate your student and rank them.
how does that work, once you are past 15 do you restart as a white belt?
No, if you are good enough you would be promoted to Blue when you turn 16. The minimum age for Blue AND Purple is 16, Brown is 18 and Black is 19
I have no clue what you guys are talking about. Can't be ranked only so high until old enough?????? No Black until 19 ? Crazy talk!!!
Just turned 14 on March 30th, got my black belt........ "J.C. Penny. $2.98 on sale."
Great line, from a great movie. Original, not the remake. The remake sucked donkey balls. :)
We train the young kids (8-12) in the gi. I feel at that age kids will stay more interested if they wear the uniform and physically have the belt around their waist on a daily basis. We also have them line up at the beginning and end of class in order of rank. I feel this helps to teach them disipline and that it's time to listen and train once they have the gi on.
