roflmao...Jiu Jitsu missing? Violation! Distance management...that was just a funny exchange. Uh oh. They've started talking about Gracie Combatives again. Did anyone hear what Renzo Gracie said recently about all of that?

I always get nervous when folks criticize other martial arts about "real" street fight effectiveness. I'm putting a little too much on it probably, but it really is starting to feel like Gracie JJ is going the Krav Maga route where they are selling it as the undeniable "take this system and you will never lose a street fight" thing.
Ryron taught a seminar at my school 2 weeks ago, he is awesome, excellent teacher who had fun every moment. Didnt know he and Rener have the same accent, so funny how they finish each others sentences.
Has anyone else had the privilege of training with them?
Thanks for that. It was very interesting the stuff Renzo was saying. What did you think of what Rener had to say in response to Renzo?

You know, its become a joke. Let me tell you what the real jiu jitsu is: the real jiu jitsu is the one that doesn’t back away from a challenge. It goes at the obstacle and defends its flag. It’s like, if you want to claim that you have the best fighting style, you should be in the UFC kicking some ass. That’s where the best competition is. - Renzo from that podcast RaiderFunk's talkin about.
Thats a tall glass of fuckin truth there sir! Not the ufc part really, but I agree that's real jiu-jitsu, 10P Lynchburg Va flag defender right here!
yea the Gracie in-fighting stuff is old, i think the techniques ryron and rener discuss in the video are more important than warring teams/factions/REAL BRASIL JIUUUU JEEEETSU
now has anyone else trained with either of these gracie brothers?
And what about their words is implying you will never win lose a street fight ? They say if you throw fists with someone your size, you've got a 50/50 shot of getting ko'd. Seems right. And they it's better to stay away from the fists of someone bigger than you. Either way outside or way inside. Again, seems like good advice.
I have more of a problem with their marketing...and the McDojo-ish sounding nature of it. Not so much in the above video as they touch on it just a little but on how they market the gracie combatives. I am not questioning the advice but the whole "real jiu jitsu" thing is not cool. Like Renzo said in his interview:
I don't mean to de-rail the thread but I get nervous when I hear people on the self-defense "real life" thing. The fact of the matter is that no martial art can simulate a real life situation. They can make it very virtual but you can't simulate slipping on spilled drinks, being slaightly drunk your self or real weapons. Closest thing approaching REAL SELF DEFENSE is what the Dog Brothers do.Quote:
But don’t try to bullshit them and expect them to accept anything you try to shove down their throat, because this is not the greatest country in the world for no reason. In reality, I see this crap today, “this is the real jiu jitsu”…let me be honest, I see jiu jitsu now turning into Krav Maga. Turn into kung fu! Like they are selling things that will chop your head in half, with a karate chop.
So when people call me, saying “this is the real jiu jitsu,” the next thing they are going to say is “I cannot use it, because I could kill you!” [laughs] You know, that’s what I heard my whole life, from those fake martial artists who claim they were better than everybody else. So believe it my friend, I live my whole life watching this and seeing this. We were always against that, and now suddenly one branch of my family is turning into that! It’s claiming that, but doesn’t go on the proving ground to prove it, does not step into the place where he should actually be representing jiu jitsu, to do it.
Omy, I trained with Ralek Gracie a little over a year ago in PA for a Law Enforcement and Military combatives seminar. Good information its basically the blue belt test for the gracie belt system. I have learned a lot more since being a part of 10th Planet Morgantown but it was a good experience and Ralek is 3-0 in MMA in Japan so it was cool getting advice from him
