Thanks Rachael! It was completely unexpected but I can't wait to get competing at the intermediate level legitimately now (my last competition was at intermediate just because I won beginner last fall).

which tourneys have divisions by years of experience not belt? I dont plan to ever pursue a belt. I have tapped all the blue belts Ive rolled with, except two,(one had over 100 pounds on me) But i couldn't really tell you how good they were or I am since Im so new, I think I just tried harder honestly. There are unranked guys at my gym that I could never tap even if they didn't have 30lbs on me. (im 154)
Congratulations Amber.
And we usually only have 3 weight classes. 136 and under, 136.1 - 158, and 158.1 and above.
It's a catch 22. I think less women compete because of it, which then only encourages it to be this way. Sucks! In fact, there isn't even going to be a womens brackets at all this year at Gracie Worlds. Rose said it is too tough to bracket chicks.
Half of my tournies I have had to move up to the open weight class. It was that or not compete. I still get my happy ass in the car, drive 6 hours to compete with girls 30-60 pounds more than me.
Side note: I am seriously curious how many 10P females there are.

I'd like to have a list added. Title "This mufucka is gonna have his blue one day! " It's for fools who spend their last dime on travel to seminars, sleep in parking lots, hitchhike to tourneys, and trust in the system with their hearts and souls. I would nominate William Gunther and Trez Reyna. Trez got his though so he's out lol. Seriously though, thanks for all your dedication and hard work brotha.
Cool Tony. Thanks brotha. The page tries to be creative and calls the official white belts, "blue belt prospects." Like a person just doesn't walk in the door and automatically get a white[just my opinion]. You hang around long enough, you can be considered a prospect.
Tony how are you a white belt only?
It's a looong 20 year story of being under fraudulent instructors, training between weights of 392 and 162, learning improper technique and timing, and the realization that I'm simply not nearly as good as I thought lol. I've had a breakthrough in my life yesterday though brotha! I'm finally in a situation where I can dedicate myself to some training time in Decatur and gi time locally. I'm on the right path now brother :-). My time will come and until then I just need to put in some more work.
Sounds awesome Tony! With all the twists that life has, it's good to know we could stop jits for while if we need, and come back ready to roll. Decatur has some serious talent and Brandon M. is a great mind, both on and off the mats. So you're definitely in good hands there.
392?! Yeah, I'll have to hear about your story one day. Sounds inspirational brotha!
Opps glad I saw this thread pop up, I forget:
