10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu WHITE BELT taps out JJJ Brown and Black belt!

Hello again!

So, last night we did some grappling at the end of our JJJ class. I got to roll with the brown and black belt dude. I've tapped everyone else but the 2 brown and black belts and my instructor. We started rolling, I got him in the Lockdown and BAM! Electric chair beauty.
After that, the dude was like "Man, that was awesome! I did NOT expect it! What was it? You just GOTTA TEACH ME!" I replied with pride in my voice "That, my friend, was 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu" In my head, I added a B!@TCH.
Bad thing is that my partner in crime could not be there and tape the whole thing... Better luck next time.

Ever heard the phrase 'what happens in the gym stays in the gym'? I am a great believer of this practice for many reasons (gym etiquette, team mate safety etc).
Also it kind of has a negative effect on your school if you go around bragging about how you (a white belt) can tap out the higher belts. Makes the level at your academy sound low. ;-)

One thing I have realized about 10th planet and the community during my time here on the forums, meeting everyone at Eddies Stockholm seminar etc, is its simply not about showing off and bragging and shit like that. Even if you are a badass. Its a huge family type community, more so than many other combat sports communities even. Where everybody is treated equally no matter their rank, and techniques, issues etc are all shared daily because everybody has a huge love for the system.

On a positive note, glad you are having fun with it. Sounds like you are doing well with it dude. ;-)

Excellent work! But remember the vegas rule applies to the Gym. What happens in the Gym Stays in The Gym. Also remember to continue refining your technique because the competition gets harder as you progress!

I agree with Sam Sales points.

If you want to brag at least do it about your competition record.

In training you don't know how hard your opponent is going, he might be letting you play your game to let you evolve or to find weaknesses in his own game.

I wouldn't go around telling people I tapped my coach. In the slight situation I caught him by surprise and got him I would keep it o myself. I might only tell my training partner and that's it. I would be like the other night I somehow caugh coach but I think he gave it to me. I wouldn't go around bragging. Not only does that bad for your coach gym and yourself but you sound like a douche

haha I wish I could fucking tap my coach - just once. He is like a little Brazilian super ninja though, 3rd or 2nd degree blackbelt with MAD SKILLS, he still competes too so loves to train really hard himself. I swear he was born in a GI. He literally ties me up in knots haha. He is awesome. My favorite person to roll with at the gym. :-)

Ben had the best game plan ;)

We've started regularly recording, compiling and uploading rolls that happen during classes, I don't see the harm in it. Was not sure at first but it turns out everyone who's been featured has benefitted from this. So whilst you may argue what goes down in the gym stays in the gym what you cannot argue is that this hinders anyone's development, quite the opposite.

And as a bonus I've found that contrary to what I expected, when the camera is on them the guys rolling will chill out a bit. Rather than wanting to 'win' we've instilled a good ethic in them that the last thing they want is to appear to be trying too hard. It's jus not cool. I was pleasantly surprised.

There is a major difference between filling a rolling session to study and learn from vs bragging about what you did to someone during a roll. One is for development the other is for ego gratification.
