Building the Judoka/Sambist for NOGI!!!

I'm finding this base rather underdeveloped to gain a clinch necessary to produce results when people simply don't have to clinch with you. What developments do you feel judoka need to make especially in NOGI grappling period? Lets stick to just that facet alone.

1. What is the clinching hierarchy for nogi grappling? Dbl Unders/ Bodylocks might be at the top but the hardest to achieve.

2. What did you need to borrow from other sports to supplement and raise takedown percentages.

3. What were some huge failures of the sport that you feel judoka shouldn't waste time on at a high level?

4. Why isn't there a program or routine in place that solidifies the knowledge gained for professional athletes to perform at relative ease with so many repetitions already in their skill set for NOGI?

I'm certain Herzog would have a better response for this, but I'll give it a go.

1. To answer this, it would probably help to understand that in Gi sambo and unrestricted judo, though the cross grip is probably the strongest defensive/offensive combo grip, most grips are about the same efficacy, it is how the individual utilizes and RESPONDS to adjustments with that grip, and the individial with the superior gripping sequence in the MOMENT (individual exchanges) David Avellan shows judo hip throws from double overhooks, the highest percentage of throws occur from a over/under scenario(because of the higher frequency of occurance) and Double unders is like stiff arming in the gi(without the disadvantage of distance added), has tremendous defensive capabilities, and allows control of shoulders AND hips to a degree.

2. Personally, I trained judo with no bearing on competition until very recently, so I did not need to reach out to borrow leg pick techniques or counters to those, as they were taught to me and I use them in randori frequently. Greco-Roman clinching is a good addition to the nogi aspect of these movements though.

3. Mindset. I think the largest failure of SPORT judo is not conveying the mindset of Maximum effectiveness with minimum effort, in exchange for equating winning matches with effectiveness.
