For the guys that run a hotbox or anyone else, how did you decide on a mentor/sponsor? Did you pick someone that matched your physical build? Did you pick someone who plays your "game". Did you just pick the baddest mofo you could find?

You find the baddest motherfucker that you can vibe with. I spent many weekends in Springfield, MO with Brian. Attended classes, seminars, and learned as much as I could in the short time I was there. The 8 hours each way was worth its weight in gold with the knowledge I got. I would still be down all the time if I wasn't so busy.
Thanks fellas
Ive heard nothing but good things about him. It may be time for me to reach out to him, thanks Brett.
Its safe to say that anyone running a 10P moon is a very bad motherfucker. For me, it came down to who I thought I would be able to train me more often & more consistently. Rochester is geographically closer to me (but the 2 hour drive is hard to pull off since I have my kids every weekend). I've been lucky enough to even have the mighty Zog coach me during some of my tournament matches - what a difference it makes to have A+ clear instruction during your competition! Not only does coach Herzog have a mile long list of accolades but his leadership, class instruction & coaching skills are 2nd to none. His Rochester moon was Moon of the Year last year too if I recall. It is impossible to go wrong if you follow his words like the B-I-motherfucking-B-L-E.
But for me - since I work in Charlotte NC - I opted to ask Jon Helton, who was gracious enough to agree to help guide me in my Hotbox adventure. It did also cross my mind that he was closer to my size but really it just came down to the fact that when I'm in NC for work, I got no kids with me (usually) so can get in a few solid weeks of training when I visit. Jon is a great guy & gives me invaluable instruction - I only hope that now that my life is settling down that I can get serious about my Hotbox (which started out a bit slow due to marriage issues/etc).
Best of luck Charles!
Wow Michael it seems like you had a great experience with Herzog. Thanks for sharing man.
Sean sean bollinger is my idol for sure not mentor yet, can't wait for my disability cause to get over with to join 10P Riverside. I want to learn from him because I love his style I think like you mentioned it would work great with my natural skillset thats the #1 reason I want to go learn from him in particular.
What is the best way to learn what each gym leader specializes in so to speak? For example I hear that Herzog is a leg lock genius.
