Was that muddy waters? Not trying to hate. Why aren't you busting out the pump from new york crackhead to get the arm in position? You're going from new york to high double bag without going to ny crackhead and pumping his arm into place?
ny>ny crackhead>pump>high doublebag (locking the shoulder)>fall to the side=muddy waters>win

Nice work! I don't see Muddy Waters though :) You have a triangle instead of a High Double Bag and his elbow doesn't appear to be in the center of your chest / stomach area. It looks like an arm bar from baby alligator or the newly named Dead Orchard.

Niice! But I believe this is the Dead Orchard version of the croc, where you can triangle your legs. Baby Alligator is from Mission control I believe? and Muddy Waters is when you have a New York with a high double bag trapping the shoulders.

Dead Orchard?! Baby Alligator?! -- I've never heard these terms?!
On top of never having trained with anyone who uses the rubber guard. I became a member of 10thPlanetJJ.com in 2010 before MTS was a consistent source of technique. So I backed of for quite awhile and wow am I proud to see where MTS is now xD
I saw the 1st MTS episode where Eddie is working Muddy Waters with Aoki a couple nights before Grappler's Quest. I kept noticing how Aoki would triangle over the shoulder. (That is what I did in the match above) So that is why my information is relatively flawed. Though with watching the review. I have a better understanding of Muddy Waters.
Aaron Gustaveson, I dislocated my right ankle in the match prior to the one seen above :/ -- Not only was my standing grappling noticeably affected. When I went to crackhead control I felt a strain in my right ankle so I took it back to the hip and worked to a double bag.
I thought this Andy Dick looking character of a ref did a poor job with points, restarts, and even a general understanding of the rules. He told my I wasn't allowed to grab MY OWN PANTS, he restarted the match in closed guard when there was no match going on in the ring beside us WHILE I WAS fighting for a triangle choke, and not to mention the areas I wasn't getting points or that he waited 6 whole seconds to give my my sweep points from lockdown. -- Sorry for the rant xD
All of that aside. My opponent who is a 3 or 4 striped purple belt that trains at Renzo's, made for a truly respectable opponent. Despite the injury that has me soaking my foot in ice water as I write this. This was the most fun I've ever had in a match (:

Why am I never getting guard pass points when I sweep from lockdown? Then transition to side control.
How can I access this in order to get all of my points?
I have more video from the past 3 months where this has happened a couple times.

That's awesome! I train with Genesis MMA every now and again. I try to make it in there at least 1 or 2 times a month. Guest teach a class every so often. Lately though, I've been coming in to specifically work with Zack Rice. Great kid! I really enjoy working my wrestling with him!

The man I've been waiting for! I've been confused for the last day. Dead Orchard this. Muddy Waters that. East Coast Dead Upside Down Right Side Up Croc. Drowding Bob.
Hah! Hah! I was watching your work with Aoki and seen how you were showing it with the double bag. And Aoki kept locking the triangle. And you were basically saying if you get that in it's golden. I found that it fit towards the end of this match. And the arm felt like a twig and I went for it.
Any comments on this passing after I sweep from lockdown? -- I will probably make a new thread and upload like 2 or 3 videos of me hitting the old school variation to side control. Not one time did they give me pass points. I talk to some guys around here and they say there was never an established guard to pass??
I'm like, what the hell? Weren't we just in half GUARD??!
yea james, we will be at lock haven university. definatley come in, you could teach a class do what ever you want, I'll probably go about making the club a hot box and want as many ronins stopping through
Im curious to know why james hasn't been getting points for a sweep using old school. Anyone have an answer, just bad officiating?
I used to get dicked over on points all the time. For some reason you don't get points for the pass if you do it while you sweep the guy. In order to get credit you have to pull off a inferior sweep, one that doesn't have a pass included. Makes zero sense. If you pass in the sweep you should get 2 extra points for the big money move :)
I know in the rules of some competitions like IBJJF, GQ, and NAGA. It states that if you take down and opponent to side control it is 3 pts total. Where the take down to a guard is only 2 points. They go one to say that if you sweep to a dominant position. Example. Half Guard to Top Side. You get 3 points for the sweep rather than the traditional 2 points.Quote:
