Proud Papa today!
Amazing!! Congrats guys!!!
Cant wait to tee the vids
Big Cats a beast.
Right on!! Can't wait to see vids!
Wow! I said it before and I'll keep saying it, watching giant dudes destroy with rubber guard is one of my favorite pastimes, right up there with watching kids destroy with rubber guard.
Looking forward to watching the videos :)
Great job! Can't wait to see how it all went down!
Tom carbine is a beast
Here is the Super Fight:

Fuck yeah thats awesome!!
Man talk about persistence and patience sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit.
Excellent endurance for a big guard player in my opinion. He just continued to wear him down off his back. I love that shit!
Awesome match! The whole time I was thinking, "All he has to do is win once." Great discipline.
This is a great example of a true posture battle. Not surprised at how well the brown belt kept his posture. Only takes one sli
One slip up for Tom to capitalize and that's what he did ! Great patience and persistence as Frank said
I'm super impressed that Tom was able to maintain guard against a brown belt for that long. The triangle was the cherry on top.
I should have his 3 absolute matches tomorrow morning. The Finals is exciting and against a super legit purple that wins just about everything in the area.
Coach always teaches the importance of leg curls and adductor squeeze. I really started to focus on that the past few months and its made huge difference for me. When you know your legs aren't gonna burn out, it gives you the confidence not to rush submissions and then lose position.
No one was passing Tom's guard yesterday, period. Someone finally took advantage of a vital piece of advice I have been giving for years, and it paid its dividends 10 fold. From now on Tom will be know as the weirdo carrying around a medicine ball wherever he goes. I saw Tom's confidence boost dramatically yesterday, which makes for an even scarier Big Cat.
After the finals Tom came over to me and thanked me and said something with confidence that I haven't heard until yesterday he said "Coach, clear off the walls in the gym I'm gunna be bringing a lot more belts home". ;)
I believe.
That's awesome! War big cat!
About this medicine ball. Lol. What exactly is he doing to improve leg endurance? I need it in my life ASAP.
This will probably only be the 100th you've heard this.
Start off easy.
Do this 2-3x a week while watching a 1 hour tv show:
Squeeze the medicine ball 100% during the entire length of the commercials, resting during the show.
Get to the point where you can reverse it:
Squeeze the medicine ball 80-100% during the length of the show, rest during the commercials.
Good work Tom, can't wait to see the videos!!
Ah I remember that about choke squeeze. Didn't realize legs also choke. Lmao. That said, this is going into my life today.
Exercise one:
Full Guard (Ball between legs cross angles over ball)
Exercise two:
Adductor Squeeze (Ball high up between the knees while sitting in butterfly stretch)
Exercise three:
Leg Curls (Ball between your hamstrings and calves, Seated or on stomach)
Exercise four:
Triangles (Ball inside your triangle)
These are just a few, and I use the TV show idea to help the slow starters who won't put these reps in the gym. Makes training/relaxing time cross over. On the off days stretch during your tv time.
Tom is far more dedicated then the average student and puts in several hours a day in the gym, and does many of these drills right at the gym.
Wow, what a savage. Congrats to Big Cat and all at 10P Rochester.
Video would be helpful. (Of the exercises)
Here is Tom's first Match in the Absolute. Tom received a bye in the fist round. The guy Tom's fighting is a scrapper and had about a 10 min match against a super heavyweight Blue Belt and tapped him with a RNC.

Absolute Match #2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPQau5fgI_U
I know 100 percent David has heard the medicine ball thing a bunch of times.
Sick wins.
Liking the M-Ball exercises, and also now know to stick head into chin when pulling guard
Demolition by triangle. Nice work big Tom!
Great job Tom. Nice to see all of your hard work paying off!
Absolute Finals:
Tom faces off against a very dangerous legit purple belt that consistently wins at all the event we go to.

Nice!
There's something beautiful in watching a beast of a man like Big Cat being so patient and looking for openings and the right technique, instead of simply "muscling" his way through.
Congrats to all who competed and thanks Zog for the tip on the leg squeeze exercises :)
Tom is an inspiration to me because he is a big dude with great technique!
I really dig your coaching, Zog, it's awesome to hear; it even helped me to stay calm and focus on the technique as I was watching and visualizing myself in the match.
