Guy's a beauty. Josh Passini rolled with him after a tournament. Dude's super legit. Tough as fuckin nails that guy!
Guy kind of seemed to have come out of nowhere at black belt, or am I just out of the loop?
Very impressive on the mat, sounds like he has been busy with school and work so a real well rounded individual.
He is one my instructors at Atos right now. Super nice guy and definitely really skilled on the ground. I knew he hit a twister a few times so I just started to look him up, and I see that he is using 10th Planet stuff pretty heavy in competition. I was just wondering if he was ever training at an actual Moon or not. Who taught him the details etc.
Very cool and well rounded dude for sure. I'd say he sort of came out of nowhere on the black belt competition scene. He was wrecking local tournaments as a brown belt around Indiana so I knew of him from that but he only recently got his black belt (within the last year or so).
I cringed so hard while he was forcing kung fu/gogo here. He was so close to loosing his knee.. Especially against an opponent this much bigger.
Please do not just crank your foot towards you to try and force kung fu/gogo. Keep a strong overhook with your left arm or hug your knee, cross face with your right, hip out and get the angle first. Then if you have successfully created the angle to do it safely, go for it. If you cannot create the angle with the cross face and hipping out, do not force it. You will eventually hit a situation where your opponent drives forward on you while you're trying to force it and it will twist the shit out of your knee. Or you can even twist it with your own strength.
But that aside, great 10p game. These vids are all from 2010 though, is he still competing often/using 10p? Anyone have video of the recent AJ match?

Thanks for the advice, sir! ...I have a torn meniscus in one knee right now and something up with the other as well. Last thing I need is a knee popping again. I'll try to get some more info on why he started using the 10th Planet system and if he still incorporates it in his game.
Yeah he was only a brown belt for like 6 years lol
One of my blue belts, Nick Birgel, trained under him for a few years..
He came by 10th Planet Boulder a month or so ago and smashed me and Nick.
That Hingertine is no joke! He hit it from everywhere. Kept trying to go to the saddle.... hingertine. Rolling kimura... hingertine. And so on and so on
