Zombie problems
Hey fellas, lately I've had trouble getting to New York from mission control because guys are either A) keeping their elbow anchored to my hip with their forearm and hand pinned to my rib cage or B) swimming their hands back inside when I do get the zombie. I had a tournament today and my opponent was pretty hip to rubber guard defense so it was a little frustrating. Any videos addressing this would be awesome. Or even just detailed verbally if it's simple enough, thanks in advance :)

There is a few things you could try. You could try going for the zombie from crackhead control, thats been working a lot for me recently. Or if you have the flexibility, you could double bag, clear then neck into invisible crackhead and try for the zombie from there, Ive heard the zombie is so much stronger from there

Things I use.
Answer to A: stomp your leg that you are playing rubber guard with right before you zombie to take their weight off of the arm and make the zombie easier. Kinda like you are trying to finish the Ryan hall triangle or are doing a side ways leg press. Works really great for me from temporary mission control.
Answer to b: when you zombie make sure you follow all the way through with your body towards their neck. It should be at a diagonal angle towards their neck instead of straight up into the air. That is a common error. Is to zombie up, instead of up and in at the same time.
Hope this helps.

personally I dont zombie much and aim for flying zombies or flying chilldogs or flying kung fu move. for flying moves, I've got a few things I do,
1. if they just dig their hands in and sit there, then i reach my hands from the outside going in around the back of their elbows, grab on and pull out, this collapses their base and you can go right into some great positions.
2. is a 2 on 1 arm throw/drag. This is for where you cant get anywhere with them, they just want to hole up and wait. grab a 2 on 1. Throw them almost vertically up but at a slight angle, (I prefer to my head, but could be away from you too I think) let go of the 2 on 1 with your opposing arm to one you grab. and get a free new york. The opponent, generally focuses on the arm you grabbed and forgets about the other.
3. the basic climb up them and fall down grabbing their arm on the way down.
If you already have Mission control and cant zombie, then remembering the moves that dont need zombie are great. for instance. meat hook is probably the best; the mission pump is there as well.
Finally, dont get stuck in your ways. just because RG is amazing doesn't mean that you shouldn't change up your moves. sometimes I give up half guard and play lockdown, change to butterfly guard. start throwing up some guillotines or try and get a hip bump sweep or something. even better is when you switch to something and then switch back to RG, keep them guessing.

Mastering the Rubberguard dvd (disk 2) covers this pretty well. Night of the living dead, and flower sweep attempt (forces them to base so you can grab the overhook) both work really well, especially against bigger/stronger opponents because they're doing the work for you.

John Botello has a trick he calls "The Force" that is pretty solid.

I'm not sure I can add much to this zombie-wise, but there's a couple of nice options otherwise: if you can get halfway, just hip around, swing your other leg over, and you've got a Duda. If his elbow's quite close in to the middle of your chest, you can Pump and go for Spider Web.
If I've got anything wrong, can somebody tell me please. Shockingly, white belts aren't the definitive guide.

Duda to baratoplata. Or you can switch over to gun show control.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll try each one out and see what feels good from there

Just a thought, could I bail on the rubber guard leg and throw it up and around for a triangle on the opposite side? Anyone have success with that?
