A lot of respect to Ryron for taking the fight! And his attitude about it makes me want to compete and test myself more :)
The gi matches sucked, plus people kept going off the mat. Ebi is head and shoulders way more exciting then metamoris.
Ryron with the rubber guard?
I agree that EBI is WAAAAAAAY more exciting. But the Clark Satoshi match was really dope. The other gi matches were boring but Clark and Satoshi had a really awesome match. They both went for it.
I want to see Danis fight Tonon sometime this year. It needs to happen.
I got excited when Ryron started grabbing his foot.
Then, realised he didn't actually know the rubber guard and was just trying to control Josh's posture. :(
Can you imagine Ryron with the rubber guard though? That would be DOPE!!
p.s. After yesterday's snooze-fest, I'm stoked for EBI 4. Hope that's coming sooner rather than later!! (Just don't announce the matches and have Ralek throw money at your competitors Eddie. I'll be purchasing the next EBI PPV even if every single one of the competitors is listed as a generic "Adult A, Kid B....")
I'm not a fan of Ryron, but you have to respect his attitude and willingness to jump in there and being ready to compete at any moment.
From 11:31 to 11:44 is the sequence where Ryron gets to mission control and has a PERFECT, SHINING, utterly WASTED (sad face) opportunity to get to New York. Instead of fully believing in that zombie he switches both his hands to pulling Josh's head and he loses the opportunity. :_( If only people would invest...then again, Josh is a big boy and was framing Ryron, but you'd have to think there coulda been a window if he had been 100% committed and drilled it before.
Chael... did he have a path to submission? Didn't seem like he had a game plan other than to just sit in Babalu's guard.
Also, although I know some people find it boring, I thought Francisco Iturralde's gi match was pretty slick. He maintained control throughout and transitioned beautifully from omoplata to inverse armbar to straight armbar. I also thought his consistent use of the collar grip just behind the head was pretty cool.
Yes! Sinistros omoplata flow was beautiful! Holy cow. And I have no idea what either Chael or Babalu were doing. We basically just watched them dry hump each other for 20 minutes...
I like that Keenan has created a whole system off of his lapel game and has only had it in place less than a year but has used it against the top guys with great success. Reminds me of another American who created an unorthodox system that worked at the highest level and had all the Traditional Jiu Jitsu guys hating on it.
