i def do believe that bruce lees concept was def mma do i believe he was the best fighter that ever lived uhm b4 like 1994 def but if you were to take bruce lee like he was with no extra training and take im thinking he woulda been like a welterweight or middleweight so take gsp or a top middleweight i believe bruce would not be considered the best
i think if the fight was on the street bruce lee would dominate any fighter right now
how does evryone think bruce died?
Bruce is the King. Godfather of mma.
was bruce ever in comp
he did some boxing in high school if thats what u mean?
how did he die
idk i have many theories on how bruce dies...its a shame that we will never know for sure
Hopefully John Roderick will post here. I know he is quite knowledgeable on the subject of Bruce and JKD. Now I could be wrong, but Bruce Lee would more likely be a lightweight, possibly even a featherweight. And to my understanding...he would have no problem keeping the fight standing.
He did quite a bit of boxing in high school...he believed heavily in cross-training and believed all MA's had some merit. He studied striking, the clinch and had a judo and wrestling ground game. So from a learned standpoint one could argue he had MMA game.
It's funny, now that MMA is here mma guys get all elitist and scoff at all eastern martial arts without ever having studied them.
the most accepted theory to how he died is an allergic reaction to asprin
He got poisoned by the mafia over money or MA schools etc...
Bruce Lee's biggest contribution was open mindedness and cross training in an era when this was unheard of. Truth, functionality, and freedom of expression were the primary things to him. I come from the Paul Vunak offshoot of JKD,and I'm proud of what JKD has accomplished,as well as embarassed by the politics, backstabbing, and "traditioonal" JKD dogma that has arrived. We have that in common with Jiu Jitsu!
i think bruce's wife was paid to kill him...sounds crazy but thats my opinion
Bruce never reached his peak. Def the most influential martial artist of all time. In his weight class he was hands down the best. Death was due to hypersensativity to a prescription migraine med. he borrowed from a friend. At the time of autopsy, his brain was 4 times the normal size. It was basically swelling until it crushed itself against the inside of the skull. He fell into a coma and died. The headaches were due to lack of nutrition and rest. He was working 20 hr days and was basically on a liquid diet. He had planned on taking a break but never had the chance.
Bruce Lee was a martial arts genius and a true philosopher. He was the first to learn multiple styles, break down what was useful in those styles, them incorporate all those styles into his game. And Nelson is correct....he never even reached his peak. I can say one thing for sure....if he was alive today...I would be his student!
I often compare Bruce with Eddie....not their skill level, but the way they teach/taught, and how they both changed the way people look at their "traditional" martial art. Eddie has the same philosophy of learning multiple styles, then incorporating what works in his game, the same way Bruce did.
dude that would be insane

Thats all I have to say :D

twice apparently lol
At the time of Sijo Lee's death, he was WALKING at about 135-140 lbs. 147 tops. Earlier, he was about 150, prior to intensifying his workouts. As Nelson stated, Sijo was a workaholic and was working insane hours prior to his death. He was involved in every aspect of his Hong Kong films, from editing, scripting, directing, and fight choreagraphy. Not to mention his own training.
As far as these debates over his competion (or lack thereof) or where he would be in modern MMA; we have to understand his premise and point to training-REAL fighting in self-defense. Period. He would probably love MMA and see the merits, but he was not concerned with points or winning rounds, but self-defense aspects.
Now onto some specifics:
Sijo practiced amateur Boxing in his youth and did enter at least one tournament, winning in his weight category I believe.
He also practiced and competed in fencing, which is where he got a lot of inspiration for his footwork and "strong hand forward" thinking.
He studied Wing Chun Gung Fu from when he was quite young. He also ran with street gangs in Hong Kong (which are no joke) and was in MANY street fights, often fighting with a chain from an old style toilet he kept hidden by wrapping around his waist. He would use it as a whip, or distance weapon. The gangs often fought each other, and had one on one challenge matches on the rooftops of Hong Kong.
Bruce Lee studied many diverse styles. He was doing an extensive amount of wrestling, Judo, and Ju Jutsu at the time of his death. He had a great deal of respect for grappling in general. He was often quoted as saying that a high school or college wrestler with a little boxing would beat any martial artist of his time.
From first person accounts that I have been involved in, (reputable Bruce Lee student accounts) Sijo Lee had incredible hand-eye coordination, hand and footspeed, balance, and tremendous power. The closest people that I have seen today, possesing many or all of his attributes are Manny Pacquiao and Kru Phil Nurse. Both of them are about the same size, and possess the same power, speed, and balance. Phil is unbelievable to watch and train with. He's the closest "martial art" person living that has the same attributes.
We can consider Sijo Bruce Lee as the Father of modern MMA in the sense that he showed the reality, as the Gracie's did with their Gracie Challenge and starting the UFC, that if you have the Hubris to think studying only one discipline is enough, then you are sadly mistaken. As we've seen in each evolutionary step of MMA: if you are only good in one range, you'll only go so far. You MUST have a solid understanding of ALL ranges of combat: weapons, striking, grappling, in order to be truly a martial artist. All ancient martial arts knew this, and worked on various ranges. In Modern Times we've forgotten this.
So... YES-Bruce Lee is the "Godfather" of MMA, but he was so much more than that.
my guess would be if you took him in his prime and put him against MMA fighters of today, he would probably lose most of the time. (in an MMA fight, not street fight). compared to anyone back then he was WAY ahead of his time.. you would see anything from wing chun, to tae kwon do, to pulling off armbars in one movie.. and i would guess if he were born in this era he would definitely be a dominate force in MMA. Because he seemed to always be at the top of his game in every aspect of fighting. The only reason i think he would lose as he was in his prime was because back then his knowledge was limited. because fighting and all the aspects of it have evolved since then. but if he were born now and had that same mindset of learning every practical move from every martial arts, and then repping them thousands of times a piece until they were perfected... man, that mentality + todays understanding of fighting.. and thats one freak of an MMA fighter.
hmmmmm i wonder if any of the gracies got in a confrentation with bruce...since they both held open fighting challenges hmmm
i think if they had he would of practiced with them im sure the ju jitsu he studied japanese style
bruce had an allergic reaction to a pain medication and it killed him.
Godfather of MMA, great person, and philosopher. He made martial arts what they are today.
Bruce was the first one to not settle on "my style is the best style". The "Tao of JKD" details, in his own handcrafted pics, fighting techniques borrowing from fencing, grappling and the striking arts. If he were alive today, he'd be the featherweight version of GSP. Respectful, honorable, professional.
IF brucie boy, were stiLL alive, he'd appreciate aLL of this "attention" cuz boy, for a Guy who has "moved" on, Clearly, people are stiLL Respecting & Reeling from his Benevolent Influence, neh?
Inspiration Begets Inspiration, oh, if anything he was a SupernaturaL Being, a Presence far beyond the Confines of Time & Space, and I Reckon, if he "chose" to Re-Incarnate, he would be a "noob" So that he could "re-Learn" from the Ground up, anonymously, so that no one would "expect" Sage Wisdom and Advice from him, but instead, Look Inwardly, to find that, True Wisdom, is from Within, ELSEWHERE:
He probably wouldn't mind, kinda like how Goku in DBZ re-incarnates as his Younger Self in GT: I imagine, Bruce was feeling TOO Much Weight on his Shoulders, and chose to Move on: His body & Mind were "tax'd" and his Family would Carry on his "Legacy" even to this day, Propagating his "Legend" So to Speak....................
IF I were a betting Man, and IF I were Bruce, ReBorn, I'd say: Hmmmmm, Thirty Odd Some Years after my Death, and?
StiLL, My Presence has influenced everyone from Rappers, to Comedians, to UK Musicians, to Modern MartiaL Artists and MMA Aficianados, I can only Say, that I humbly Return the Gratitude, and wish nothing more, than to see, this BaLL oF Luv & Energy, continue, on its own Trajectory, without my Influence or "input" Directly
I'm on the Sidelines, Observing now, wishing nothing but the Best:
I'm now, the Shamanic SpirituaL Cheer Leader, hoping you aLL: Make the MOST oF this WILD Experience, and prove me RIGHT, ha!
The PhysicaL aspect is NOTHING but a Stepping Stone: To Higher Dimensions & Realms of Being, & Expression, Remember, nothing in this Life, Lasts Forever, Cherish: ALL Those Memories, Family Members, EVERYTHING.....................
Fleeting, are they, in the Grand Scheme of things..............................
Best of LUCK 2 you aLL, neh?
Btw, Next Year, The Green Hornet, then: Tai Chi, w/Stephen Chow's Version of Way of the Dragon, and possibly: Remake aka Awaken the Dragon?
For a guy, who's no longer "with" us, per se, he's very much alive, his Spirit, neh?
HehS............................Who knows, he just "might" StiLL Be here, hehS
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I never "said" anything, ha! :p ;) :D
ActuaLLY: He'd Probably PREFER: Bantamweight, personaLLY, if u ask me, hehS.......................................
Yeah, I don't know, man, If I were that "Big" of an Icon or "Star" as others would have LabeL'd him, I do not believe I would "re" Incarnate, into Similar ModeL of ConsciousneSS, if anything: I'd start Over, from the Bottom UP:
He's done enough for us, anyhow: Time to Move On, and ENJOY: 4 a Change
Plus, there are SO: Many, people, who are Talent'd, and Deserve the Spotlight, to SHINE
I think, If he were stiLL Here, He'd Be Rather SociaLLY Reclusive & Hermetic, neh?
Hiding, Seeking, Watching & Learning from EVERYONE, Else, Instead, neh?
That way, he could get some MUCH needed Rest, for the ONCOMING Transitions, neh?
BwahahahhahahahahahS.......................What's in STORE 4 Humanity, is far Greater than any One Man or IndividuaL to Surmise or Imagine, but tis FUN, NonetheLESS, heHS..................................Regardless, I hope ye aLL: Find what you DESIRE, and PURSUE or ACHIEVE it, without FaiL, and do not be Hinder'd by Dash'd Hopes, nor Empty Streets or Dead Ends, just find another WAY, around it, that's the Meaning of this, do not be Discouraged, and do not LET other People's Expectations of WHO U R, get in the way of WHO U: REALLY ARE, neh?
Do as thou wilt, is the way...............................Do unto Others, is the Message, of Love................................see ya on the FLIPSIDE, of this Double Rainbow Bridge, Valhalla, neh?
RAGNAROK, Come hither, See ya when the Planes Switch?
HahahahahahahahS.................................
Nah, Bruce is not a Fighter: IF anything, he was an ENTHUSIAST, and a Tinkerer, he LOVED to go "hands" on approach, to everything, if it wasn't practicaL, he'd drop it, and he was CONSTANTLY Evolving, he just happen'd to ENJOY: Da MartiaL arts, so much, that he Studied it, Dissect'd it, Shared it, Spread the Joy & Wealth, neh?
IF u ask me: Bruce would've no longer "Fought" at aLL, by the time he finish'd Enter the Dragon, he reach'd a Stage in his Evolution, where, the Fighting Surpass'd the Confines of Time/Space, PhysicaL Reality, he was Transcending and Transfigured into Higher Realms, SupernaturaL Being, fighting Demons & DarkneSS, more his SPEED, hehS................................
To REDUCE him, to mere MortaL, Realm Combatant & Fighter, is to Miss da Point of his Transformation into SupernaturaL Presence, and Positive INfluence on this planet
Our ProverbiaL & PerpetuaL LOVE: of Bruce, is what UNITES us, kinda like an Azian Jesus, ha!
Jk, nah, but he was a UNITER not a Divider, so I hope, his Authentic, Genuine Expression of his Passion & Love, does not go, unnoticed, neh?
Be Good, nothing in "this" World, Really: Matters, it's in thy own, heart & mind, whether or not is Significant, and in the END: it's da Fwends we Leave Behind, that we wiLL MiSS, da MOST, neh?
Peace & Luv, ya'LL, G'nite, ha
I heard that he would fight death matches vs other chinese people who were against him teaching Kung Fu to non chinese people, but that could all be myth.
Anyways, the dude was a fucking bad ass. He even does an arm bar on a guy in Enter the Dragon, lol. I'd say standing he could for sure hang with anyone right now, and probably mess them up bad. On the ground, who knows what he had. Maybe he could get back up to his feet...
We'll never know though!
