Good or bad for the 10th Planet mission?
"The man" es no bueno.
never heard of the guy :/ guess ill get reading on that thread then come back. sounds like a dick already though
ooo what a tangled web we weave or something like that haha
Bad. Since day one he has rattled off some of the most absurd nonsense on this forum. I would never want myself or any of the others who try to rep the 10th Planet system to be associated with this guy.
My position: not good for 10th planet.
Not making a lot of logical sense on that thread and talking shit to JC, someone as legit 10th Planet as they come, is out of line. At least when I argue, I'm talking about jiu jitsu.
In my view, combine that with previous incidents that he hasn't learned from obviously (http://www.10thplanetjj.com/threads/...rogance-legacy) and a certain level of disrespect to you and Epsto makes me wonder why this guy doesn't just go away and train quietly, and let belts go to those whenever it happens.
Not good for 10th Planet
Prime example of a keyboard warrior.
I agree.....gotta say not good. To me 10th Planet is about making things happen for yourself and not making reason why you can't. People should be getting reps on the mat not the keyboard.
I think it is ok to have your own opinion, however someone who has been in the martial arts as long as he says he has should have a lot more respect for the higher belt ranks, especially the black belts. I know Einstein can be a little rough around the edges, but he is still a black belt and one of the pioneers of 10th planet and should be treated accordingly.
Heres my spin on it all
i've been a member of this "family" for a little while now and look at all of the 10th planet members as my peers and mentors and friends i am blown away buy the general feeling of goodwill and openess by many of the instructors, students, and of course eddie and i remeber i asked a instructor about why every body was jumping on this guy and giving him a verbal beat down and the answer was very simple "the guy is disrepecting the system and the people that have bled broken bones and taken huge amounts of shit in following a mans vision to make juijitsu better and bring it back to the front of mma " and that struck a massive cord with me and why i connect my self so much to this idea is that when we walk in to a comp,a school,a cage we as a "family " are the underdogs the outsiders and slowley and surely we are gaining ground and respect as martial artists /fighters and thats amazing i train at a gracie barra school and on the coffee table at the front of the gym theres a copy of mastering the twister on my first class there did i roll in decked up fully in 10th planet gear no could i have yes but i chose to show my school the respect i knew it deserved and got a gi and went down and learnt there ways to add to "our ways " and from that i will grow from a white belt to a blue and so on now on frank the man james as a man that has had 25 years of martial arts experiance i expected more 1 black belt 2 browns and a purple = alot of time getting your arse handed to you buy guys better then you reguardless of what style you practice if your in debt so what i've got a morgage and i'm 300,000 in debt but i can still save my money make a trip to melb's to train with frank and then come back and save to go to la and go to hq shit i might even buy my girlfriend a ring get engaged at legends and get married at the whiskey i dont know but what i do know is if you fuck with one of us you fuck with all of us jay"jc" chow is a blue belt and i give him nothing but respect sure i might pull the piss out of him from time to time about his football team and call him kidda alot but as a fellow 10th planet jj student i give him nothing but respect same as john frank compella zog e=mc2 rhassan nelson steve @melee and anybody else thats ive added on facebook or has added me these people are my friends peers teachers and my sources of knowledge they deserve my respect as they should recieve it and if you dont wanna show it to them back your bags and theres the door
and just so i am clear the verbal bashing thread's where about 2 guys that claimed to be bjj black belts that wherent and claimed they where affliates
Yeah I think our commentary here should be limited to positive, supportive thoughts. I know thats why the majority of us are here is to help each other and to connect to one another. There will always be some fool on here talking shit, weather it's lost of frank james or whatever....
I suppose the level of douchebaggery is pretty low in comparison of other forums. We should keep it that way...
I have had some serious reservations about this guy since he first started posting here and it started because of a thred that Eisner posted on Royce Gracie. He started showing what I thought was some serious disrespect to Royce and the Gracies which led me to question the origen of his purple belt. So I questioned him about it in a very casual way and here is what went down.
Me: Hey Frank Im curious because of your strong stance against bjj for self defense who gave you your purple belt?
Frank: bluegrass conference which is va, nc, sc under nbl and ski rules
Me: who gave you your purple belt?
Frank:doc leamon stroud out of kinston nc. and I am not opposed to bjj as a defense, I am simply stating that it is not the king of martial arts, and for certain situations it is the most practical art to use. but anyone who has ever been in a fight for their life will tell you that if I willing take my opponant to the ground it greatly reduces my options if I find myself needing flee a deadly situation.
Me: I have never heard of him where did he get his black belt? Im just curious about your lineage since your beliefs are so different from the beleifs of those who created the system.
Frank: jonathan, doc stroud is a traditional juijitsu 7th degree black belt in hakaru juijitsu located in kinston, n.c
Me: Ok I see, well this is a BJJ website more specificly 10thp jj and a lot of the people who post here are highly ranked in other martial arts. Ari Bolden (moon instructer) is a black belt in Japanese Jujitsu Chris Herzog another moon instructer is a black belt in Judo and some form of karate I believe and also a certified Instructer in Sambo, I beleive another moon instructor Is Highly ranked in Akido. Along with many other forum members who are ranked as black belt or instructer in many other martial arts they all post on this forum under there Bjj rank. Out of respect for Eddie Bravo and everybody else who has achieved there rank in bjj and to not accidently misrepresent yourself you might consider doing the same. You could always show your other ranks in your signature under your posts. Now im nobody to be telling you what to do but I know this is the way Eddie the other moon instructers and the people who frequint this forum want it to be.
Frank: Gotcha Jonathan I'm on my Droid right now so fix that asap. There wasn't directions under that, and I wasn't sure so I went with my rank in the closest art form and fyi I'm also a purple under verisimo charities in Nova uniao bjj, so I'm not a beginner and I'm working very hard with Neale hoerle in lynchburg to learn 10th planet. Thanks for the heads up
Frank: That should have been. Charuto in previous post, fucking Droid
Me: If your telling me Renato "Charuto" Verrisimo gave you a purple belt than that is appropriat rank for this site. How was it training in Hawaii? Did you get to train with B.J. Penn?
Frank: Unfortunately I never trained in Hawaii. I helped open ABI's mma in goldsboro, NC, and we were an affiliate Nova uniao under rootz. He is an awesome dude and I hate that me and a long time friend moose huffman the owner, had a falling out over the direction of the school. I miss all those guys. Rootz has one of his brown belts in Wilmington and right now those guys are dominating the local mma scene. But if I had never left I would have probably never discovered 10th planet and we wouldn't be talking. If you go to abismma.com moose pretty much erased me from the site but you can see a couple of the guys I trained while I was there. Also look me on Facebook where you can see some of my guys that I've worked with. If you see my fighter Doug and check his shorts, they are rich clementes from his last fight in the ufc. You'll also see my good friend Shane hurricane helms from WWW who I have also taught bjj to. Look me up and add me if you have fb
here is the entire thred http://www.10thplanetjj.com/threads/...-game”-Article
In light of the B.Q. and Coringao situations I think he owes you Eddie, proof of this claim.
I didn't read the other threads, but I think we should be forgiving if someone can improve. Some people don't respond well to embarrassment or when they feel no love. Maybe he's just one of those overly sensitive, volatile people.
Reprimand him with love, see if he improves, and if he continues hostile ways without provocation then the ban hammer it is.
My 2c.
He has also pointed to his Criminal record and gave links to a N.C. data base to verify it in an effort to give him self street cred.
Haha! Good rebuttal! :-)Quote:

Seems to be a lot of Drama surrounding this dude...shit doesnt really add up with all the stuff he's been saying.
He also stated that he beleived the reason he was awarded his purple belt was because Verrisimo wanted to expand his affiliation, which to me is disrespectfull to Verrisimo.
Too much drama and call me lazy but I don't like reading long winded posts.
my computer is fucked on my ps3, hence no AVATAR, i know money can be tight, but i've never ''Franks Avatar'' 5.00 dollars isn't much to stay current with, Double Bagger, Japanease Nectie, ect. buy MTT & MTR & use the website as a tool to continue evolving. Frank, at least pay the 5.00 dollars holmes
i vote to band him because people that smoke pot or train Bjj are usually not that confrontational two things that make up The 10th planet system.
I read the thread. He was out of line. Ban worthy? I'm not so sure. I vote for Einstein to decide.
I find it funny that the "who should be the next bb" thread started some trouble because as soon as I saw that I thought of a few guys in my head who I might see as "deserving" of a belt promotion, but then I realized that I really don't know shit. Yea, I'm a white belt, but it's more than that... it's simply not my place to decide or even cast a vote as to who should get a belt promotion and who shouldn't. For that reason I chose not to post a reply on that thread, and it seems that my inclination was correct. It's a troublesome thread in general because the bottom line is that endorsements by your 10th planet peers on the forum has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the fighter is qualified to move up in rank. That's the job of that fighter's instructor, whether that's eddie himself, or another senior 10th planeteer.
As far as Frank goes, I do understand his frustration with it being expensive to get to HQ and test, or even to compete, but everything costs money, that's just life. I'm in law school right now and I'm paying $200,000 just for the opportunity to achieve "rank" in the legal field. If the belt itself is so important to you then save the money and make the trip, or put in the time and mop up some competitions. Either way, it was probably inappropriate to voice his concerns publicly like that, and he certainly should have used some discretion and not attacked people personally. I do sympathize with him a little in that the forum ganged up on him pretty quickly and kind of trapped him into a corner and he chose to try to fight his way out which he should have known was futile. He's been on the forum for a while and I don't recall any other incidents with him so I think we should probably just drop it at this point.. I don't think a ban is really necessary, but if the conflicts continue then perhaps a ban will be inevitable.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents, since u asked master bravo. Can't we all just get along?? :) Happy Rolling!
If you ban him, he'll probably just come back with another name. Just saying. I've said some douchey stuff myself out of frustration. I hope you guys don't hold grudges against me forever. It was just a way for me to vent some frustration and maybe get noticed a little and it worked. But whatever you guys decide to do with Frank is cool with me. If he's the cause of too much drama, he should probably be punished in some form.
take the man out of his name...hehe
John you have never blatantly disrespected Eddie.
True. Thanks buddy.
fly him out to HQ. Make him fight Renato for a 10thpjj blue belt.
Let's just ignore the gimp lol :).
As a non-paying, poor college student who only reps the style at a BJJ club, I assume I don't have much word on it, but Frank has some goods and bads to his posts.
In one light, he's too straight forward about his ideas. Whether you agree or disagree, the way he presented his ideas were disrespectful. It's one thing to suggest that maybe Eddie should visit the East Coast from time to time (maybe even during seminars) to see if guys repping the system warrant belts. It's another to say he NEEDS to do it, or that he's late in it. Suggesting an idea; popular or not, is okay. But demanding it of your superior is stupid.
Disrespecting people that do not agree with you is also crossing the line. If someone counters your point, explain to them with reason why they are wrong. Don't start calling them ass-kissers and saying "fuck you." How does that get your point across? No one cares what you think if you're a douche bag about it.
I'd say to give him a warning, but he's done things like this before, and does try to pass him self off as a hard ass. If it were me, I'd ban him. But, that's just me.
Wow!!! Holy mother fucking shiat! Really??? You made me read all that? Eddie you owe me now... But since I did, here you go.
1. He was disrespectful, at first I believe unintentionally. But then (maybe as a defensive reaction) intentionally.
2. Seems down on his luck and is very passionate about the system.
3. I say let Neale and Einstein make that call, since they obviously know him a little better than I.
Less Drama more training!!!!! Come the fuck on for real!
I think this is just another case of things getting blown up. Franks intentions were good. Problem with posting on forums is that no one can tell your intentions. Just like the white belt comment, it was not meant to be disrescpectful, and I didn't take it that way, but someone misinterpreted is all. The like all things on the internet is became a huge epeen contest. That being said Eddie (only non-local 10P person I have met) was super cool at our seminar and even helped out a complete nub like me that had been training for only 3 weeks.
I just only hope that someday I can move on from the pink Hello Kitty belt that I feel I currently hold.
Eddie I think you need to make everyone you meet a black belt so we all can walk around with our black belts on and show how we can beat everyone up in a fight and disrespect everyone. Sweep the leg and put em in a body bag :)
I don't think he's bad, misguided perhaps.
I don't agree with his questioning of Eddie's ranking guidelines at all, its wasn't his place to do so. No one is forcing anyone to train 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu and work towards rank, its a choice. If its something you want bad enough you'll make sacrifices to obtain it.
The name calling wasn't called for and doesn't following the positive attitude that the 10th Planet community strives for. However I feel it was reactionary on Frank's part and he made a poor choice in how he responded to the criticism. We've all said stupid shit in the past, hopefully he'll learn from it, use it as a learning experience to grow is a more positive direction.

Frank challenging a respected Gracie brown belt to a street fight on Facebook. Ban him. He is horrible for the system.
