Last night a seriously big guy, with a seriously big attitude came to the gym Im training at. An ex heavyweight pro kickboxer, I guess he was about 250lbs+. He just smashed everyone. He was solely there to show everyone how tough he was and went 100% the whole time, while drilling technique he was trying to submit everyone with stuff completely unrelated to what we were doing. Im not sure what he thought he was proving as most of the guys are around 160lbs.

I watched Eddies ego video today and it just seemed a perfect example. Me and another guy had injured knees and couldnt kneel, so the trainer had to use the big guy to demonstrate. Every time he went to show a technique, the big guy used all his considerable strength to stuff it. No one learned much. Have to say, Craig at Sphere Martial Arts Townsville is a beast. Despite giving away 100lbs, he handled the guy, and made it all work.

Anyway, I rolled with the guy at the end. First round, he wrapped my own arm around my head and tried valiantly to strangle me with it. I got my lockdown and waited for him to quit. He was probably choking himself more than he was choking me, but I thought my arm was going to come off.

Second round, despite the guy being massive and hyper aggressive (Im 6'4" 210lbs, so not that small myself) and despite only ever having studied Eddies (excellent) instructions in the book, I got him broken down (he kind of put himself there) and all the way to ChillDog, where a rather surprised look appeared on his face when he realised he was stuck. Then he tried to turn his head towards the side where my leg was on his hip, which gave me room to stick my foot under his chin and gogoplata him (Im only really up to Chilldog in the book and technique gets even more sloppy after that). He tapped pretty quick.

Prepare to be shocked and think, "WOW, this actually works!" a lot more in your 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu life :)

I hate it when dudes intentionally stuff demonstrated techniques because they know what you are doing. It forces you to use the opposing counter technique totally ruining the intention of the drill. I mean go ahead and resist it at the meta level, you know; the grip fighting, fighting for hooks etc. but don't bust out the damn counter unless it's part of the flow.

Don't you love that first moment you just kill a dude who is way stronger/bigger than you are with 10th Planet stuff? I remember my first time. I was on cloud 9 that whole weekend.

Last week I got tapped by a guy who Im pretty sure weighs half what I do (he denies it but I think hes lying). We roll a lot and I just use no strength, only take what he leaves wide open and if he tries to sweep me and it seems like the technique is right but mass is not on his side I go over regardless. We have good rolling.

He caught me in a super clever shoulder lock from side control I cant even describe, that he learnt a week I was away. I was rapt for him, he had me fucked and he worked his arse off for it. I asked the teacher to come look and tell me what it was, half because I wanted to know what it was and half because I wanted him to see the kid got me. I made it clear he had me and I didnt gift it. You should have seen the kids face.

Probably much like mine looked:D I really thought I left the ego at home but maybe not. Have not met many guys bigger than me yet.

Congrats man. Yeah I'm 149 so everyone is big for me. We have some 185ers and 205ers that try to smash my full guard with brute strength. Its so much fun when I transition to half, deep half, homer simpson. They're def surprised

its scarey how well rubber guard woks on us big guys...its really a big ego deflater

Congrats Tim You " Popped your Cherry " Eddies Books explain the whole system perfectly, Rubber guard and Twister, I have the whole Arsenal and have never even been to a 10th planet seminar, I just bought his books, 10th planet with My Traditional background with the GI makes for some fun guard play, Especially when " Killing " 240 pound wrestlers using GoGo's and Loco's, You took the " Green Pill " and joined our world, Welcome, Have some weed & have fun. Yo Tim by the way, focus on 1 new technic commited to muscle memory a day to prevent " Technic Overload "
