Such as very aggressive opponents, patient opponents, larger opponents, wrestlers, judo practitioners, 10th planet/BJJ opponents.. or do you just use the same strategy for everyone? Just curious to see the different approaches taken by different individuals..

I definitely have different strategies for different opponents...
Bigger guys I tend to take the back and use guillotines.
Aggressive opponents I'll stall until they tire out. Won a tournament holding De La Riva forever on a go-tard young kid.
Wrestlers I'll try to put on their back.
Judo guys I wrestle with.
But none of that is carved in stone. I feel everyone out individually.
I start off with a gogo and see where it takes me.
Usually, when I visit a gym I am trying to improve my game via that gym's skill set. So I intentionally grapple people against their strengths. It's not a winning strategy but I tend to learn more. That being said, my ego does at times get the best of me, or we get somebody visiting our gym and I end up utilizing an optimum strategy for the win.Quote:

patient opponents - pass and smash. every moment they wait should be a grinding and excruciating experience underneath me. I want to keep moving, so I never get tied up or stalled out.

10th planet - leg locks, avoid 1/2 guard and guard... try to pass to North/South.. if on bottom, bait the baby wipe pass, stall them and counter with an underhook
BJJ opponents - knee pass them when they pull guard, smash the head... leg locks
Pretty much just feel em out, u know ur strengths so I never try to take it somewhere they have the advantage. If they are being aggressive then I'm not gonna try to beat em at it, ill just chill. If they're passive then I'm gonna let em be, but never try to take it anywhere they can be better than me at my own game. If its a 10p Guy then I usually try to bait them with something, u k ow what they're gonna be looking for so just make sure ur ready to counter those specific techs.
Taser them. Touch while unconscious.

Sean brings up good points from the Muay Thai book.. The Bruce Lee style is also very important. You begin to learn to play against their style, even if you've never known what their style is. In boxing, you jab a little here and there, circle around your opponent... You notice his style quickly.
Same goes for jiu jitsu. You push his shoulder, fake an arm drag, 3 point contact the opponent. You get to figuring out a person really quick. Then if they are aggressive, use that against them- kick a knee out and armdrag. If they are timid, become the aggressor and chop their knees.
You can even enact this same method against guys you know are good at certain systems, because they may avoid that system altogether, and go with a totally different attack.. Just know, they are capable of going back to that system should you leave that opening..
Ugh, but then there's the tradeoffs of being waterproof(defensive in all aspects), being everything(offensely evil), being balanced(equal in everything at all times), or having no balance(formless).
