A couple of tournaments ago, Cora was caught in a boy's guard. He was bigger and stronger and thus held her in there for a long time and by the time she fought her way out, she was exhausted. So now our goal is for her to break out of guard FAST. In my research, I came to this video. What do yall think about this guard break/passing?? Thanks

This and variations of this was the first closed guard break I was ever shown.
After you open the guard there is risk of scissor sweep if you dont keep control of the leg.
I believe that this break can lead into a knee slide, stack pass, and kneebar
I used to open this way and then pummel my hand on the lapel under the leg and stack pass when he would push on the knee that im trying to slide over
She needs to get good at comboing basic passes to really imrpove at passing

It usually opens the legs while giving you good enough posture to hip forward.. clear the leg and pass to side control(or a cradle).
Might not be great for her due to size issues but worth a shot as its high percentage for me and Im typically smaller than most at 155
This is badass. It will work and it will fail. When guard breaks fail I stand then break. Learning to stand within closed guard, without getting swept, is the most reliable goto imo. Pop or windshield walk up and pop your hips in front of your chest. Then break. Mastering this will save so many headaches. Realize you have to be good at getting and maintaining proper posture for this to work. Posture, stand, break. 1,000,000 times. Problem solved.
Love this break and I go right into the knee knot because the angle is perfect.

I personally start off with breaking the guard from the knees, if it dsnt work i go for standup guard breaks.
I am too big and heavy for Cora to drill the original technique with properly. So I found this one and I really like this one a lot for her.

Stand up breaks all day.
I've done the 1st one and it worked well. The guy was bigger than I was also (I'm about 185 and I'd say that the other guy was 230 to 240).
I'm not sure how it would translate to no gi since I haven't tried it. Not sure exactly sure if I would try to hold the shoulder or behind the neck?
