Hip Injury
Ok, So I found out a few months ago I have an impinged hip (both sides) and at the least a torn labrum on my strong side which I use for rubber guard. Here's what I'm asking is it common for this type of injury due to the stretching or in my case too much stretching or improper stretching (while cold)? If so has anyone gotten surgery to help correct and resolve the situation? Also, if you have how long did it take to recover from the surgery to get back at it? I'm definitely accident prone when it comes to jiu jitsu but this one couldn't have happened at a worse time where I finally felt my guard game getting stronger and my overall movement too. Thank you in advance for any advice and input on this.

If I had to guess it's probably more related to a muscular imbalance more related to posture causing extra wear and stress during activity but I couldn't really say.
*Edit* For instance, I carry more weight on my left leg then my right so my left hip is a bit of a mess. I've done some work to correct it but I need to be more consistent about it. Most people, especially people who sit a lot for work or at home, or people who have had a previous injury causing them to carry themselves differently to compensate can have some things like this that can get progressively worse.

My recommendation is to see someone who specializes in this sort of thing. I go to a Active Release Technique (http://www.activerelease.com/). I had some bad knee pain for quite a while and it ended up being due to certain muscles not activating and very tight hips. Surgery should be the very last, last resort. Go to the URL I posted and you can find an ART therapist near you.

Thanks for the info, and yea I would say that would explain the pain on both sides. I do sit a lot for work and wear a belt that is weighted down (more so on side than the other) which I originally thought was the root of the problem. In the past it was explained to me by my PT instructor that my knee injury was due to the hip. I'll check the website out though to see some more options.

I've been diagnosed with the same thing. Surgery was recommended by the doctor but that's not an option right now. I found the site below and talked to a PT friend who's been working with me to strengthen my supporting muscles. Anyway check out the vids below, the excessive that strengthen my glutes and quads have alleviated some of my hip pain.

I tore my labrum on my right hip off there bone a few years ago and had it reconnected with screws. At the same time they shaved my hip socket to improve some wear and tear. 6 months rehab and I was back on the mats, and 12 months post surgery I was back to my old self with no pain.
Surgery is only recommended if the muscle has come off the bone otherwise stretching, massage and yoga should help improve it.
