another whitebelt 10p player at Lovato's finally!

My g/f Ariel has been training for about 7 months. She obsessed. 5 classes a week, talks about BJJ constantly, falls asleep at night with her notes.

I've suggested a couple times that she let me teach her the lockdown. She knows what it is, cause I put it on her and she hates it. But she's been resistant to the idea in the past. Not because she has anything against 10p, but because Lovatos has a huge amount of material on their whitebelt curriculum and it's overwhelming trying to absorb it all. Lockdown is not part of Lovatos, so it's just more stuff to learn as far as she's concerned.

But she's about 140lb, and most of the other girls are bigger and more experienced. She does ok, but I keep watching her get her halfguard blasted through. So finally I'm like "Baby please, let me show you how to do a lockdown".

I teach her, and she's terrible at it. I tell her she's got to squeeze it more, because I can circle out of it with zero effort. I show her how to put her boot on to make the hook better, etc. The lesson doesn't go very well and she's kind of like "just let me learn the Lovatos stuff for now". "Ok" I say.

Later that week she's rolling with one of the girls. She finds herself in halfguard, as usual. Bam, she locks the girl down. The girl doesn't know what to do. Lockdown is not on Lovato's curriculum and as a result none of the whitebelts have the foggiest idea what they are in. The other girl has crappy base so Ariel just kind of pushes her over, gets on top, and passes into side control. Her eyes get really big, huge smile grows across her face. That was maybe 2 weeks ago... fast forward to present.

She's locking down everyone she rolls with. She still doesn't have a proper whip-up, or a whip-down. But the other whitebelt girls have no base and she still manages to get on top most of the time. At the very least she slows down or stops their passes, frustrates them, and gets to grind on their calf muscles for awhile.

Next step is getting her up to speed with the whips so she can attack. I've been telling her that she's going to destroy the other girls with Electric Chairs and soon as she can move them around with her lockdown. I think she's seen the light.

Anyway, I started having success the minute I started using 10p techniques, and now my g/f is having the same results. Amazing system, thank you 10p!

I woke up in the middle of the night once to my wife trying to get out of my lockdown. lol. that's when you know you've been training too much.

The first time I got a lockdown was serious light bulb moment. You are totally right, that a lot of greener people seem to lose their base when you lock it up. It's a killer system, and those that don't pay attention to it do so at their own peril in my opinion.
