i think ther are many ways in which you can consider yourself successful in jiu jitsu. winning competitions, learning a new technique, being a great coach, getting your blue, purple, brown, or black belt. personally, competing isnt my number one goal. i feel that focusing on improving my jiu jitsu in practice and becoming as good as i can be is what im looking for. i want to open up my own affiliate one day and knowing perfect technique is the key so thats what i work towards. but i also know that everything works together hand in hand, pratising more means im better in comps and comps give me extra experience and get me towards a higher belt which means i can open my gym which means people will come train and i can learn more and get evn more practise in and so on.
so maybe being successful in jiu jitsu is setting a goal and striving for it until you reach it. the fact that you can never run out of goals in jiu jitsu, that there is always something new to try and learn, is just an amazing thing.

I think being successful in Jiu Jitsu is growing yourself as a person, not just skills. You learn how to deal with pressure and push through. You learn how to have confidence in yourself and your goals. I think the hardest part of being successful in Jiu Jitsu is letting it mold you for the better, but when you do, I feel that you have succeeded in Jiu Jitsu. I've seen people quit because they're stuck and they don't want to become better. That's when you don't succeed.
As far as business, competition, and instruction goes...
