Doesn't the first bridge if he can roll his head past your arm sort of set you up to get arm-triangled? This is assuming he is able to react fast enough to catch it. I like the space that the second bridge allows to set up Perfect Double Under Hooks but the first one I just feel might set you up to get caught, hard to tell in a video. Would have to try it in a live roll. Still I like it, always good to have more options.
Twin bridge? What about bridge 7? Lockdown conspiracy.
Thanks for that. I'll try it tonight at no-gi class. Getting smashed by higher belts makes my lockdown useless so I'll be glad to try this out and hope it can save me.
Thanks for expressing your concern, Kyle.
I want to assure you of your safety during your 1st bridge.
Even if your opponent has fast twitch reactions, these movements will typically seem subtle to the top position.
There will be no que for the top position to react in this parrying head motion relative to your arm.
Assuming the top positions does do this. You will posses the inside track, your elbow is low enough to transition to multiple grips controlling the head. Likely a single collar tie if thing get too out of hand.
Keep in my that my movements in this demonstration are slow and over exaggerated.
I have never been caught in a head and arm choke as a result of this technique.
But as you pointed out, there may be a slim hope of this.
Marcelo shows this technique with his overhook in front of the face of the top position.
The problem that comes from this position is that the top guy can palm strike the elbow causing the arm to cross the center-line
leading directly to a head and arm choke attempt from top half guard.
Ryan Hall's inspiration brought in the club to the side of the neck area, better addressing the possibility of a head and arm attack. Also, Ryan Hall inspired the knee block. Being the knee is blocked it, the top positions has to post out, if they want to avoid being swept.
Be aware that the top position can post on their elbows. Good for us that still leaves plenty of space to block the shoulder.
Not that I suggest this, but I can typically get away with just 1 bridge.
A lot of the time. That 1 bridge will land me on my side with perfect double underhooks.
What about the bombs on Washington Bridge?
Where did those news reports go?!
Explain the Thermite?
How do you explain the Thermite?!
What about Rousimar Paul Harris?
And his ties to the Brazilian CIA?!
Just an fyi in case you are unaware, only brown belt and up are allowed to post tech vids, unless it has recently changed. Also, please tell me that your LD is much tighter than what you are doing in the vid. With the LD as loose as you have it there is no way you will keep anyone that is remotely hip to it in the LD. Just to be clear the LD in the vid is a shitty loose LD and if that's how you use it then you need to do a shitload more work on just perfecting the LD. Not trying to be a dick just giving feedback on what I see.
James, I'm sure only Brown Belts and above are allowed to post vids on here mate.
That is still the rule, and its in place for a reason.
I got it, this dude is an infiltrator sent in by Henatch to try and get our younger folks doing the wrong things. Damn I shoulda noticed it sooner when he was talking bout doin seminars and shit. Damn you Renato, trolled us!:D
Shouldn't comment, but I can't help myself, I am very passonate about the lockdown! When you unhook the lock down the first time, why not just super stomp with overhook. You are almost there already. I heard that super stomp to butterfly can be effective, not sure where I heard that. You can do all the same upper body motions in conjunction with whips, with the same result without giving up a lockdown you faught so hard for. When You unhook that first lockdown, I'm swinging my foot under my ass and you'll never see it again. You will have to fight to get back to lockdown or be stuck in traditional half. I only willingly unhook the lockdown to stomp, go to dogfight, or after my sweep, cause it is a bitch to get back.
He's neither a moon or a hotbox. He's not subject to any official rules. Can't anyone pretty much post anything they want? I believe the rule is in place so lower ranked affiliates don't try to become internet sensations before paying their dues. However, it's entirely different if he is in the process of becoming an affiliate, in which case he should abide by the rules. Btw, I liked the video.
So what you're sayin is that all I gotta do to post anything I want on here is shut down my HB? Awesome I thought Id have to change my last name to quick or something before I put out shit info. If we have no rules that would be cool, then anyone would be able to open a hotbox lol:cool:
Y'all are shitting on the technique without even trying it out but honestly I don't see anything wrong with it. Looks pretty effective to me.
I think James is just trying to contribute to the forum, remember sharing is caring... Some might find it useful as we all know there are many ways to do things in this sport and so happen he is just showing an option to get to where he wants to be. I've watched many videos that James shared in this forum and he knows what he is talking about. He competes regularly and proves that he is a force to be reckon with. James and Elon are 2 of my favorite 10thplanet ronins to watch, they rep 10thplanetJJ as hard as anyone of your guys. And please excuse James if he doesn't know the vid rule, but all he is doing is being a little scientist that Master Eddie spoke of many times over. He's contributing to the forum what works for him and he tested it out in competitions.
Look guys, Eddie got the Samurai off some kid who posted a video on the internet. What if that same kid had wanted to post the Samurai on our forum. But you guys say no because he's not a brown belt? That's ridiculous. The spirit of the rule is to discourage lower ranking affiliates and hotboxes from possibly posting less than stellar videos which could make 10th Planet look bad. The idea is that our guys should focus on making their Jiu Jitsu as solid as possible and competing rather than making names for themselves by posting instructional videos.
its guys like James that are true testament of how great Master Eddie system is. I mean without a true black belt guiding them, all they have is the MTS, DVD, and books to help them become killers on the mat, this is why I feel in love with the system in the first place. It shows me that anyone can do it, regardless if we are at a 10thplanet gym or not.
Ok so Im confused is it a rule or is it a rule that is enforced at some higher beings discretion? To me it either is or isnt but hey Im just a lower ranking blue belt with a lowly hotbox. Oh Bruce, might wanna pick your 10P heros better lol, ever heard of Nathan Orchard?
Like the video or not, he is wearing a 10th Planet patch, which means he is misrepresenting the system by posting a technique Eddie hasn't approved of. To my knowledge he has inquired about the ranking process which would subject him to the rules. The Brown Belt rule isn't only about people paying their dues its also about quality control. It limits people from posting techniques that haven't been approved and run through the vetting process. The rule was put in place because the system has caught heat for poorly thought out techniques in the past.
I didn't shit on his technique, he clearly asked for opinions in his post. I think there are better Black Belt master approved options and I usually fight from traditional to lockdown half and have no desire to go back to trad half once lockdown is acheived. I love the open format of 10th planet. I (and other) have posted videos before, and nobody has said anything to me about not being a brown, because I never teach in them. He should have just takin' some vid of him using it when rolling, posted the video and asked what people think. We all might give our 2 cents asked some questions and experiment with it a little. If Eddie sees it and likes it, he can contact poster for more details if needed.
ok ok ok, here we go. brown belt rule is in place for situations just like this. this isn't a lockdown technique. its a trad. half tech for getting double unders. if you open up your legs while someone has head and arm, you are screwed. dominator and no hands passes all day for you. i feel that the rule should apply for ANYONE on the forum. ESPECIALLY white belts that don't train at official schools or hotboxes. the fact that this guy neither has rank or attends an official school should make him more than subject to this rule.
lets just be clear, head and arm control with good shoulder pressure and a strong no hands pass will kill trad. half all day. if you aren't whipping or putting in butterflies, that guard is toast.
If some blue belt dude training out of Gracie Barra wants to post a cool technique video on this forum, I wanna see it. If he's wearing 10th Planet shorts, even better. This is a Jiu Jitsu forum, not North Korea.
I thought the rule was only for affiliates/hot boxes. I don't think we should try to apply it outside of that. Feels kinda icky trying to control content that isn't officially associated with us. Now if he is trying to affiliate, it's a totally different animal.
About the technique in question, I use and teach that bicep to the temple kind of bump to make space from bottom side control all the time. I don't use it from bottom half guard, though. It works so well from bottom side, you have me interested in playing with the idea from half guard.
To hell with quality control, let everyone post what they want, screw the vetting process, anyone can be a affilaite or hotbox too. Lets go back to the Brandon Quick, Cappi and Ari days. I pretty sure Eddie was just talking about background check/qulaity control in the inspiring video Thor just posted, I was around then it was a huge blow and shook the credibility of the system and everyone involved. Eddie doesn't want to go through that again and neither do I. At that point in time 10th Planet had zero credibility in the BJJ world, it has just recently recovered. Thats why their are rules in place. Without the vetting process and rules we are no better than any McDojo system. The system is about having an open mind, not a mind wide open.
The rule is for hotboxes, affiliates, those that are working towards both and/or those attempting to obtain rank in the system. If you have a new technique you and are not a brown belt and would like Eddie to see it you are supposed to upload it to youtube, set it to private and make is so only eddie can see it, then send him the link to review. If he likes it, he will post it, just like he did Jessamyn Dukes' striking from the Rubber Guard Video.
You don't want to discourage ronins from posting new ideas on our forum. It's all about the art, creativity, etc. This has nothing to do with quality control. James is not repping 10th on ANY official capacity. He's an active member of this forum, which is great. The whole point of his post was, "Hey guys, here's my video. What do you think?" If you don't like it, say it. Tell him he sucks. His video is not a part of MTS, it has no official link to Eddie Bravo and company. As of now, James is just a punk ass kid posting a video on this forum.
