Why did Marcelo Mafra drop out of EBI?
Also, super cool that Javi jumped in!
Unsure, he did a superfight in Vegas on Friday which I thought was odd
I'd like to hear the story on this.

A buddy of mine did a write up about it.
This makes sense now. Garry Tonon was put up to face Joe Lauzon when the M6 card was released this morning. Now it's making sense. Good for Garry. This sub-only stream is to nascent to start taking whacks at everyone else with exclusivity deals.
"Garry Tonon was offered an exclusive deal with Metamoris from Ralek Gracie that also included dropping out of EBI 3. Garry declined to accept the deal."
Another reason why Garry is awesome.
Wow that's dirty of Ralek if that's true.
"Ralek is playing hardball and spending money on exclusivity deals on athletes that aren’t going to draw more viewers to Metamoris. Instead of focusing on trying to shut down and hurt competition, he should be focused on growing BJJ into the mainstream and improving his current Metamoris product through better production and pay-per-view experience for the customers. By cutting the legs out from EBI by encouraging talent to withdraw at the last minute is petty."
+1
Garry did say he turned down an exclusivity deal in the JRE.
Tells you Ralek is a special kind of douche when he tries to fuck over Eddie, and his own family (Javi) jumps in to help Eddie out.
Yeah, when Garry said that, I never even thought of Metamoris.
EBI is a superior product, compared to the snoozefest that is metamoris.
EBI last night was way more entertaining than any Metamoris aside from watching Eddie vs Royler. The first round especially was nonstop action, transitions, and submissions. Definitely big props to Garry for most likely passing up a lucrative contract and keeping himself out there to compete wherever he wants.
I understand "it's just business" mindset, but come on. Eddie provided the best match in the history of Metamoris, despite all the pre show crap. Eddie has always supported Metamoris and Ralek. These "Gracies" always seem to be doing the wrong thing, under the guise of "helping BJJ", to really help themselves. For a family that promotes a "no ego" mindset, they sure don't live that off the mats...............
All of this right after Eddie was on JRE talking about wanting to share talent with Metamoris and work together to build up the overall sub only following.
Locking up guys at this point for grappling doesn't seem like the best move for the fans or the competitors, in bjj you can compete a lot, it's not like MMA, Metamoris doesn't even put on that many shows with that many matches to keep some of these guys busy
Unless they will start doing regular events in the future
If it was an exclusivity contract, how come mafra did a superfight two nights before?
To be honest, having watched this match below, I mainly wanted Mafra in the tournament so that Tonon could have another chance to sub him.

I would have also loved it if Orchard or Richie could have caught him.
He was also the only world champ on the card
looks like he does the "schaube" very well. He is perfect for Metamoris. Glad he dropped. EBI doesn't need runners!!!!
Now it looks like Meta 6 is on the same day ay Cooa Podia's HW tournament, 2nd time this has happened now
As Copa I mean, can't edit
Can't we all just get along : (
I'll be curious to see if/how Metamoris responds to that Jiu Jitsu Times article.
They might put forward some explanation for this other than Metamoris simply embracing an adversarial (vs. cooperative) business model in terms of talent acquisition/retention.
I'm with everybody else though. It seems like trying to grow grappling as a sport through cooperation would be a far wiser strategy than treating it as a zero sum game at this point. The pie is still way too small for that.
I would rather Ralek continue his rap career than to cock block up-and-coming avenues for jiujitsu.
Here's the full story, as I understand it:
Ralek is a scumbag.
I'm going full on Metamoris boycott.
The thing is, the EBI rule set is so good Eddie could run this thing with Purple Belts only and still have a better show than Metamoris.
Metamoris manages to have maybe 1 good match per card. And they usually involve Tonon.
The sad face if it's true...
At the end of the day, I spent the 15 bucks because the product is solid and to support professional Jiu jitsu. I'll also support Metamoris, w/o a doubt. People can say what they want about Ralek and his doings, but it only validates the fact that Metamoris and EBI are collectively pioneering the effort to make jiu jitsu a professional sport. It's beautiful. But welcome to business y'all. Ralek will probably do whatever he has to do to be the next Dana White. Did that make Eddie the next Pride or Bellator commissioner? It remains to be seen. It'll be fun to watch. But mad respect to Garry Tonon on turning down that deal. Mad respect. He's the man. I hope he gets paid 10 times over as a result. But BAM! Did jiu jitsu not just get a little more legit almost overnight? A la the night Eddie fought Royler? I mean look, we got two professional, top notch promotions with their feet off the ground. Where do we go from here? What's gonna pop up next? Holy fuck. It's crazy. And it'll be, like I said, fun to watch
Happy Monday, y'all:)
At the end of the day. Ralek can do whatever. Other commissioners can do whatever.
But I don't see no other commissioners reffing their own matches! How badass is that:cool:
I'm definitely paying for EBI and pirating Metamoris in the future.
