Planning an extended trip to 10P SD.

Just wondering if anyone could help me with some questions?
I'm planning on heading out to train for 4-6 weeks (maybe 8 depending how much my s/o really loves me), and it will be my first time to SD.

My main question is regarding SD public transportation. How reliable is it? I do drive, and I know it will make my life a lot easier to rent a car, but I don't really want add another expense to my trip.

Now I've resigned myself to the fact that accommodation will be expensive unless I happen to come across someone who has a room for rent. Does know of a room, or medium term rental place available that I can look at?
I'm looking around on airbnb at the moment, but as I don't know the public transport situation, it's hard to pinpoint anything in particular.

A little about me so I don't seem like a complete stranger: I've been training for 6 years (4 of those as a "full time" competitor). I received my blue and purple belts from Victor Estima. I then subsequently burned out and pretty much stopped practicing altogether until I started studying 10th Planet. So I ditched the gi and started dabbling in rubber guard and leg locks. Now I'm visiting Mick Broster over at 10th Planet Birmingham a couple of times a week, and training with some of my former team mates once a week or so.
I hope to make these extended visits an annual thing as I work towards my black belt.


Any tips and help you guys and girls might have would be greatly appreciated.
