Hey there,
if I get the timing right I sometimes manage to secure the hand of the endagered arm in the hollow of my knee. Working from there ain't easy, but it's the best trick I know.

It's crucial though to dig the hand in as deep as possible.
I'm very interested in different ideas, though
yeh great tip! - My coach Mick Broster showed me a killer trick where you clear the shoulder opposite the attacked arm and push the leg down where you can trap it between your own legs, needs mega reps but best I've got so far - B Macs schreech was working well for while kept getting slicered thou :(
If your right arm is the one being attacked in spider web thread your left foot thru his left arm pit and push your foot thru as deep as possible. Then pull your right arm out. If he blocks your left foot, don't give up on it, keep going back to it
Awesome - Thank you
I am very big on this escape here. The grip may not look that strong but holy shit it is. This is also pretty quiet for now. I haven't seen this taught by anyone else. It's great because it gives you a free hand to work on their legs with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9wVAcfm8mE
If you do this in the gi don't make the mistake of grabbing your pants. You mostly want to focus on the pinch of your calf and your thigh and then the clamp of your hand and fingers. Even if you're rolling no-gi in gi pants resist the urge to grab those pants. It will severely weaken the defense.
You've got to be careful with escapes that involve trapping one of their legs between your own legs. I learned this counter from my friend Michael Carpenter at 10p Ann Arbor.

Yeah, I've seen this too. I think you've gotta "feel" them actually trying for the arm. In my experience if they're actually trying to sub you then their weight is down and you can trap the leg. If you go straight for the leg before they've committed you're gonna get something like the move above happen for sure.
Nathan Orchard has an awesome spider web escape where he bridges then limp arms out, it's next level shit
For better or worse, the grip held. I ended up letting the grip go after probably ten seconds of excruciating pain, lol. I rolled out of the arm bar during the transition to full extension of my arm. But, my arm was numb for a few minutes after and still sore days later, lol.
Is this it?

My main progression of escaping is generally this in chronological order.
headscissor if I can, because it is hilarious and super effective when I can lock it up, which is fairly often. Most common is normal RNC defence but instead of cupping the back of their leg turn palm towards you and move like you are combing your hair back with your hands, bridge and shoulderwalk out, if that fails but you separate the legs a bit and have a little space hand goes to post on their leg, invert then use your foot to kick their leg away and backroll to get on top, or lace your leg in between theirs then attack the leg. Get up then knee on face, failing that knee on face leg goes all the way over their body, sit on them like a shitty russian cowboy but you are getting armbarred, pull out then leg lock.
Beyond that learning all the different grips that exist to save your arm, ie RNC, gable, gable 1 in 1 out, S, cupping your own leg, etc, and being able to switch between them as the need arises faster than they can adjust is important.
My armbar defense is my best defense, and my defense is my bast attribute.
