I Poem/Short Story I wrote about Jiu Jitsu
Hey all. I wrote this when I first started Jiu Jitsu a bit over a year ago. Anyhow I've hit the liquor cabinet early so I thought I'd share. You prolly will think its stupid but oh well i guess that just means I'm stupid. Anyhow tell me what you think.
A young man grew up in a hard poor part of town,
Ridiculed by the way he dressed he made no friends around
This was a day to day life.
Never knowing if he’d get to eat today,
And never knowing when he’d have everything left taken away
He had a certain glow in his eyes.
He dreamed of making it rich and living like someone real,
Just 3 years before his Dad was shot while walking home from a drug deal.
All he had was his Mom left to love.
The world tapped on his shoulder every single day,
Wanting to know the answers and what he would say.
He knew he had to step up to do something.
Walking home from school he was approached by 4 gang members,
They beat him and cut him from limb to limb.
He lay upon the concrete bloody and gasping for air.
Not dying that today awoken something inside of him,
He didn’t know what to do he was afraid of them.
However much he hurt he still wanted something.
He took a different way home and jogged all the way through the city
He stopped by a gym and looked in the window to see many,
Looking up he saw a sign that said Jiu Jitsu.
For the first time in his life he felt power his old life that just died,
He watched in awe as he rubbed the window to see more clearly inside.
He told his mom and she didn’t understand.
He said aren’t you tired of living this life?
I have to raise some money and get us out of this strife….
He took the long way home the next day as well.
He walked in to the jiu jitsu school ready to learn
They said 45 dollars is what you will have to earn.
He would do anything to get the money.
He sat at home that night crying holding his dad’s guitar,
He promised his resting dad that this money would go far.
Pawning the guitar he joined the school.
He learned skills he never believed were human
Armbars, chokes, leg locks were his new best friend.
With this confidence he was ready for his first fight.
The fight went all three rounds,
His head was beat in so bad he couldn’t hear a sound.
His only thought was that he wanted this…..he deserved this.
His corner man slapped him in the face,
“You didn’t come this far to waste!!!!”
Realizing that he was going to lose he came in to the third round smoking.
He kicked like he never kicked before,
He punched and punched more and more.
He ended that fight with a heavy right hand to his opponents jaw
He collapsed in the ring with a great fall.
Knowing that his real fight was life and his goal was achieved
He headed back to that pawn shop to get something he had grieved.
He said you still have that little guitar I sold you before?
I’ve come to get it back we will struggle no more.
