If you are considering getting ranked in the system and the nearest 10th Planet is only 3 hours away. You need to set up a time to make it out there and train.
3 hours? You should be there at least once a month. Geo, Boogey and the freaks used to drive 2-2.5 hrs every Tuesday for years, never heard of anyone getting an online belt here...
I'll third the above; for the level of instruction in the system you'll receive from any moon within 4-5 hours I'd highly recommend and encourage you (or anyone else) to make the trip at least every few months (take a 3-4 day weekend if you need to, I've done that a few times whenever I've visited either Rochester for an East Coast Camp/seminar or to Bethlehem) especially if you have an opportunity to go when there's a seminar. And I speak from experience too when I saw you need to visit HQ at least once at some point in your life, to be there with Eddie and feel the energy is almost like going to a concert or an MMA event, you really can't replicate it in any book, video etc.
Hope that helps....
Well the thing about that is I work all week ontop of having my kids to tend to. Our car isn't dependable I love in Holland,mi which is west michigan, ann arbor is the only 10thplanet school in the whole state which is east Detroit. I've spent 4 years training nogi and don't have a passion for bjj in a gi so I know 10thplanet is where I need to be. Given if I hadn't any kids then yeah i would be there and dedicate a few days to training there.
Hey mate, I know it could be tough or seem like a big mission. But Reach out to Adlai Cleveland at Ann Arbor and at least get in there and give it a go, I am sure a session once a month cant be too crazy and you could always head in on a sat session if the schedule allows it? I traveled about a hour and half 2-3 times a week for a year at one point just to train at a 10p gym.
I cant speak for what the requirements and such are but I am sure who ever is grading you would like to see your knowledge of the system before ranking.
Best of luck mate!
Adlai is a cool guy i met him at my first tourney i competed at,I just added him on Facebook hopefully I can work something out, thanks for helping out bro
Only one i know that has been promoted to purple is one of the guys that edited mastering the system and the rubber guard dvd's.
Meaning he put massive amounts of hours in-to the system.
Me , ive been training in hand to hand fighting of and on for 16 years now. I have not been ranked and the only one i would accept a belt from is master Eddie Bravo. He is about 18 hours away by plane so i got only the forum , podcasts , MTS and DVDs to
get close and understand the master so i do that. In any case what im saying is if you are hungry for a belt color drive for 3 hours once a week for 3 years and maybe something can fall out andyou can open your own school if you lucky and skilled.
But if you just wanna be close to 10p represent it in conversations about flat Earth for example. You can i think just do the aforementioned stuff and feel close to the 10p family. I know im 10p for life i love the system and most of all consider master Eddie a true genius in his music , jj and over all projection of himself in life. Im a bachelor in applied mathematics so i can appreciate getting something very large in dimensions and making it simple and fast to learn.
With that said i knowif you want to be or a part of 10p you should message Slick Rick and let him know that you want to be affiliated so he can put you in the the 10p app database.
Cheers
I hear you. Life has priorities. I have career, businesses, and a wife/kids. Jiu jitsu is a passion for me but I have to be realisitic. I’m not going to mundials. Nor do I expect to get a black belt in a short time. But, I want to be as proficient as I can be, esp in the 10P system. I train at a primarily gi academy and make sure I go to the one no-gi class each week. Whether in the gi or out, just being able to roll helps me workout and get reps in using 10P techniques. The fact that no one there really understands the system (other than to smash the hell out of me) helps too...but as I get better, I have been forcing my training partners to start Youtubing the rubber guard and lockdown, in attempts to stop it. I also have started teaching them how to defend it, so that I’m forced to get sharper. Plus, rolling in the gi gives you extra friction, haha!
Yeah I feel you, just some of us aren't fortunate like others, like i said I have kids to tend to,and that's my first priority,I work 7 days a week so traveling 3 hours is too much, jiujitsu is only a hobby rn becuase it's definetly not paying the bills
Lots of us have kids, ex-wives, child supportch, new wives, work and distance to travel. If it is just a hobby and not paying the bills why care about rank? Personally, I really like being a white belt and only being responsible to show up and give 100% with a positive attitude. Zero expectations other than showing up and trying. Enjoy just learning and the relationships you make along the way. What is online rank going to give you other than an ego boost?
The key to success is making sure your new wife receives more child supportch than you pay in child supportch.
Who said anything about child support,it's an investment for me,becsuse yeah I'd love to train full time as a career and own my own academy. Where are you coming off with talking about ego no one said anything about that
Again, if it is just a hobby and not paying the bills, what exactly does getting an online promotion do for you? If you want to own your own academy and make it a career you better be willing to sacrifice everything, including time or your relationship with your family.
Just saying if you think it is a challenge to travel 3 hours to the closest 10th planet gym and go to every seminar possible with work, life and family commitments, try doing it with an ex-wife and child supportch as well. You have no sympathy from me. Quit whining and get training and travelling.
I have been training, and really I wasn't asking for any your something else kid
Cleary someone is taking it the wrong way,im not asking for a hand out, I'm asking for a curriculum something to study by,so when i do go to a seminar or can make it to a 10thplanet gym ill be accustomed to their drills
You can sign up as a pro member on here. Also you canbut eddies books on the system. Also I suggest very highly that you sign up for brandonmc.ninja
Brandon mccaghren the instructor at 10th planet decatur put together a website with a killer curriculum
Thanks alot! Really appreciate that
You should come down on a Monday for nogi open mat. We mainly roll, but I don't mind showing a few things, if you have questions.
