Unfathomable Universe
Light travels at 300,000 kilometres per second (186,000 miles per second).
In one second, a beam of light can travel SEVEN TIMES around the Earth.
This table shows a number of distances to various objects expressed in terms of how long a beam of light takes to travel that distance.

I love getting high and watching "The Universe" or "How the Universe Works". Thanks for sharing! I'm stealing that first link.

Hmmm, 4.3 years just to get to the nearest star at the speed of light. If we don't find wormholes or something similar the distances are just to big to travel to other solar systems in our galaxy in useful time.

Do you think that from the big bang, the universe expanded outwards in all directions at the speed of light? Or did it take it very quickly take on cosmic proportions as space was created inside the universe like a balloon being filled with air?
My mind is still reeling from the idea that dark energy, which is causing heavenly objects to accelerate from each other, could be considered to be anti-gravity.

What an insanely beautiful universe we live in :)

My astronomy professor loved taking us on theses crazy headtrips.
