It was fantastic! I have a much better idea of where I am at and what I need to work on. I have been going nuts trying to figure out how to stay heavy when rolling- that's what KILLED me with the wrestler girl (Courtney?) is that she was amazing at using her weight. Practicing with the guys I figured they were just heavy because they are big- I din't realize there is technique behind that. From talking, watching, and rolling with the ladies this weekend- I have a much better idea on how I can work this. I'd get specific- but there's a few guys I need to smash and sweep first : )
Keep it up....Smash those stinky boys at 10P Indy! LOL!
Good job chibi hope we can have you guys out sometime Stephs parents have a house in Indiana we will shoot out and bring some chickys out with come roll with you guys at Indy:)
^^BUMP^^
Any new 10P ladies out there???
I got 4 at my school. I'm currently trying to get them on here.
We dont need to know the proper way to build that sammy. Just do it!
Hi all just thought I would introduce myself... My name is Crystal. I have only been training a couple of months. I train at home with my husband, Trey Rushing, who trains with 10th Planet Gulf Shores. I have been reading the forum for a while but just recently signed up. :-)
Hi all. Just thought I would introduce myself. My name is Crystal. I have been around jiu jitsu for years but made the decision to start training with my husband, Trey Rushing, a couple of months ago. He trains at 10th planet Gulf Shores.
Welcome Crystal! You will find there are only a few females that check in regularly on the forum but the guys are amazing at answering questions and giving advise.
Thanks!! I have been regularly reading the forum since I started training. Everyone seems very friendly and helpful. :-)
I would like to. I am considering entering in one in November. I hope that will give me enough time to prepare myself physically and mentally.
Just do it! I did my first at about my 4 month mark. Keep in mind there are fewer women doing this sport so you have to take fights/matches when you can. And a lot of times they are not ideal brackets. My first tournament there was no one in my weight class so I had to move up weight classes to open weight. I ended up losing my final match to the heaviest girl by ref decision ( she got top position and literally sat there!) Took Silver so I was happy.
Train hard and you will know when you're ready. :)
Thank you! I really wish I had a gym closer to me (and a babysitter) so I could get in more reps with a variety of people. As it is now, I get it when I can. Usually when Jesse goes down for the night. Not ideal but gotta do what ya gotta do. Lol because of that though is why I am shooting for the November comp.
Of course!!
You obviously have a gym and a team, but if you have any questions, I am around. :)
Lol thanks.i appreciate it. :-)
That's one huge reason women stay out of this sometimes..like the comment earlier on how hot Kyra Gracie is. We all roll our eyes when men make statements like that. If men would stop looking at women like meat maybe more would participate. On the other hand, women just need to step up and let the men know they can be just as good, scary good even. It goes both ways. Tell your girlfriend to wear modest, tight clothes that won't come off or down while rolling and show her some moves at the house, then get her in class. It took me a year of watching, but I jumped in and now I love it!
I have been trying to talk my wife into joining JJ but she enjoys the quiet time in the house to herself, which I can understand.
I wish she would though.
What's up ladies, my name is Tori. I train at 10th Planet Gulf Shores in Alabama, USA. I've been training about a year. I started competing at the beginning of this year. I train with the guys, didn't use to, now I train with all of them, even the 300lb ones. It's great fun and is helping me with life. I'm a big advocate of women in Jiu Jitsu. I'm a blogger..yes. :) www.10thplanetgulfshores.com/blog I have one article up on women and BJJ, working on a second piece. If ever in AL, come train with us!! We're by the beach (*good excuse*) and Eddie is coming to our school in July(*GREAT excuse*)..I want to see some ladies!
Correct, but man...you have no idea how frustrating is is to watch Rhonda Rousey fight and everyone in the restaurant is just waiting for a nip slip etc.
YES, men will recognize a beautiful women, who wouldn't? But it's the sexual talk about it. Saying someone is hot isn't that bad, but I've heard a lot worse ya know?
Well there is a respect line that just shouldn't be crossed if you want to make women feel comfortable. However, if a nipple is about to slip....all eyes will be on that whether you want to look there or not. It's just our nature. :)
I think it's nature for people to "check out" people. And as a women in a male dominated sport, we stand out more so there may be a few extra sets of eyes on us.
And I know I check out atheletes on TV... GSP?? HELLO!!! And it if wasn't for Mark Sanchez taking his helmet off, I would never watch football. :)
Yeah, unfortunately guys will always act like cavemen at the sight of pretty girls, it's God's fault :-(
Yup. Good posture and solid side control are relatively asthetically flattering to the athletic female form. It's the ass.
Yep. The sooner a woman comes to terms with the fact that 99% of the men around her would likely love the opportunity to get jiggy wit it, the better. lol.
Kidding.
(Kind of)
But when it comes to jits it's about jits. I will say however that for the most part, women that are INTO jits in a serious fashion will usually own remarkably sexy physiques. No one can help that. Jits makes people sexy.
Kurzy, you and Bobby crack me the fuck up. :o
Lotta man love there. Good to have bros.
This is kind of a bad analogy so I'll apologize in advance but...
I guess I've sort of learned to view training with women the same way I learned to take care of women in the ambulance or ER. Yes, OK, I can recognize that she is an attractive person but I'm a little freakin' busy right now for that. I really have too much else on my mind at the moment. It just isn't a factor. If she has me in a triangle, that position might look suspect to an outside observer; but if that is what is on my mind I'm going to be unconscious in short order. The only position I need to be worrying about is improving my own and getting my damn neck out of there.
Good. As slim as the women are in our area it's very likely I will be competing in the men's and women's division. It's kind of an advantage to be a distraction. It just makes it hard to draw in new women to our school. But hey, I think we just got a new one today so I'm stoked. That makes 3 women in our JJ class in 3 different weight divisions. Could be awesome. :)
And by the way, since I'm on the ladies' thread, here's a video of one of my matches from last weekend. I ended up with silver. I could care less what medal I got, I was just stoked to finally get a submission in competition. :-)

Awesome!!! Congrats Tori!!!
