Yeah Jarrad. The whip up has evolved bro. You don't have to push up on the ribs. Einstein goes over a variation in 10th Planet All Stars. Less work, works better, improves speed and transitioning to sweeps... you don't even need double unders.
In the words of the great Eddie Bravo...REP REP REP REP REP REP REP REP REP REP REP REP!!!!
But I do have a little tip that I like to do, When I go to whip up, I do a cross between the forsaken Whip, and the plan B... I place my lockdown side hand on the guys hip, and my other side on his other knee, when I whip up, instead of pressing his body up, I roll my lockdown out and then back in as I push his far knee backwards, once Im on my side if I cant shoot straight to E.C. I deep hook his thigh and go hard back the other direction, as I curl my knees inward with his leg in tow...this typically sets me up in my top game.
Like AJ Camacho said... the calf crank is there, here's a video of me doing one during live rolling.

I didn't see a post on this, if it's in here I'm sorry but also be sure when your whipping up you don't just LIFT your lockdown into the air. Bring your knees to your chest kind of motion, and guide him to your shoulder opposite the lockdown. I just got these good bits of advice like 2 days ago from our fellow warriors here and my lockdown game skyrocketed. It's the tiniest things that matter most, so make sure never to overlook them
In my experience, there are a couple things with the whip up:
1) There are some human beings that can base out and crush you down. If a move worked 100% of the time, that would be the only move we'd ever need. That is why Eddie has addresses so many paths 'off the main street' (lockdown, RG, TSC). Sometimes the normal road you are on WILL get shut down. Period.
2) Timing. I think many people forget that jiu jitsu is as much about your partner as is it is about you. The 10th Planet system MAY be an attacking system, but it is STILL jiu jitsu. That means, waiting and feeling your partner's body movement. Finding that RIGHT time to explode with the whip up. Its called kinetic chess for a reason.
3) Lastly, the leg lock from that position is called the Indian Death Lock.. Look it up on you tube. Its a Catch move that CAN catch you if you are caught snoozing.
Ari is spot on guys... I agree 100% esp with the timing comment. From the first post my opinion was that you must be bench pressing the guy WAY up in the air... I know I'm rehashing this point and the videos have been posted to help you out so I'm not going to labor the point. I would however like to throw a new term at you. "Weeble-Wobble"... Hummm, the young guys say "What?" and us Old timers need no explaination. "Weeble-wobbling" is the art of whipping up into a tight little roll-ie ball... I personally prefer to Boa if I'm not trying to Speed Half-and Half outta there. Either way an Indian Death Lock should not ever happen. I have yet to meet a Catch guy that can do it "at-will" to an experienced whipper-upper :)
Train hard ;)
