Brandon Quick and AGF
General question:
Mr. Brandon Quick has reared his head again making anti-Islamic statements and has drawn scrutiny again. Now I don't personally care what he or anybody else thinks about Muslims. That's every individual's business. But with Quick constantly stepping in shit, I'm hesitant to continue to support AGF tournaments. The two I've attended have been reasonably well run shows and our options are somewhat limited (Submission Challenge does a great job but competing in different formats can be fun) so I wanted to ask other official 10P folks: do you attend AGF Tournaments? Is there a stigma on them due to the controversy surrounding those who run them?
I hate involving politics or religion with jiu jitsu. But at the same time I don't want to support people who say shitty things that I believe are harmful to everyone feelig safe on the mats. Jiu Jitsu is my escape. I don't want to jeopardize the good vibes I get from training and competing because of stuff like this.

Quick is a black cloud period. You have a hard time finding anyone here that supports him or anything he does.

Figured as much. Damn. Another tournament down.

I haven't had any bad run ins with them. They occasionally have me and a few other 10th people compete / score keep / ref at their tournaments and everything has always been awesome. I've even competed against Johnny Bedford with Quick in his corner and ran a ring with Johnny right after and there was nothing un professional. They have normal tournament issues but nothing out of the ordinary. I think it's a great tournament. They treat their staff fairly, pay well, and the tournament goes smooth.
If you want to see some of my matches at their tournaments you can check out my YouTube, just search "10thplanetsamdavis"

There has been issue's with some competitors not being required to weigh in, the reffs heckling certain teams and a brother reffing a brother while his mom jugged.
My biggest issue is the weigh ins randomly not required. This happened at two of the events in a row in my area and we have not been back since.
This has been a while though, maybe they have gotten better?

I competed there maybe 2 weeks ago. Was really confused because I got there at 11 to weigh in, was immediately rounded up in "lanes" and was competing within 30-60 minutes. As far as weight goes I feel like I was way more on par size wise naturally than I would have been at a NAGA with people cutting. I was expecting to wait around 4/5 hours for everything to slowly play out like NAGA and others but that wasn't the case. This was the fastest run tournament I've ever done. So fast that I almost wasn't prepared in several ways to immediately compete. I had a match go the distance with tie score and I won on advantages so can't complain in that department (wearing 10th planet ranked gear). No idea quick was involved with this until I was there. I understand not respecting what he did but this was a good tournament, especially if it's close and you don't have many local tournaments.

I've done AGF a few times, and had only good experiences. I knew about Brandon going in, and was the only competitor wearing 10p gear. Brandon did immediately come up to me and start a conversation, but he was completely respectful, to me at least. In fact, him (and Chris) had only compliments for me, so that's all I can say from personal experience.

Being raised in a Muslim household and having many instructors and teammates who practice the faith, his words are condemnable in my eyes. You won't see me supporting his tournaments anytime soon.

Point Blank the dude is a liar, bigot and thief and cannot be trusted, he almost single handedly destroyed 10th Planet's reputation which took years to recover from. Some of you all musta forgot.

The two AGF's I went to were tow of the first ones ever done. I went in not knowing anything about who the promoter was extra. I posted here about them shortly after it. It sounds like they may have cleaned up their event a little. I do agree that where our registration money goes remains a concern.
