    Your Thoughts...

I feel like I'am at a plateau.. and instead of rolling for open gym and making myself feel worse about the problem. I was curious if there are any drills that would be good to drill and help me, feel better about my stump.?

whenever i get into a slump (which i can't afford to let happen) i try to focus in on one specific part of the game. for instance i have been working almost exclusively on passing the guard for the last 2 months or so. it helps make the game easier to digest because i only have one section to focus on. if i get outside of the defined parameters, i start the game over. and it makes me better when i come out of the slump.

I have been rolling with punches lately in MMA training and it feels like I just started over. Completely different. So many humbling things in the fight game but gonna stay strong and keep on keeping on.

I always try to humble myself by working on things that I'm not very good at. It never really seems like I'm in a slump then, because I'm always working up my weak points.

All of 2010 was working on my top-game. This year, it's preventing the guard pass, once the guard pass has begun. And then, of course, I'll work on specific stuff day-to-day.

Denny Prokopos was just talking to us about slumps and plateaus. He said he once went four months feeling like his game either didn't improve or got worse.

Sometimes you improve by leaps and bounds, but that may mean you're not challenging yourself enough. Conversely, if you are hitting a wall in training, maybe your training partners are getting better, and if that's the case, then YOU are also getting better, it's just harder to see it because you're not schooling everyone. Steel sharpens steel.
