This is all very old hat. Benjamin Franklin suggests a similar tactic (obviously not on the Internet since Al Gore had not invented it yet) in his autobiography and he was cribbing from a group in England that successfully took over the government from the inside by working together. Franklin suggested that young men form a selective group with other industrious young men who pledge to back each others interests. This includes writing newspaper articles and pamphlets to direct public attention to matters that your group has an interest in. This method is clearly recognizable in advertising (Got Milk?) but it originates with government propaganda.
I did some of this while in music marketing but the method discussed in the article is the amateur approach. You can spot poseurs like that. The best thing to do, to infiltrate the minds of an Internet community, is to either found the group so you can guide the discussion, or recruit a member of that group to be your undercover operative. So if we do have a government double agent, he probably was involved in 10th Planet long before he became involved with the government.
