I recently found out that I live 2 miles away from the training facility of Carlos Rollyson, a coral belt. I'm definitely going to check them out, as they are fairly inexpensive and have about 34 hours of jiu jitsu a week (based on a quick glance at their hours of operation). I'm just interested to see if any of my 10P fam knows anything about him and his team. Thoughts on having access to a coral belt?

Eh, turns out I assumed wrong on a few issues at this place. Turns out they only have 2 hours of no GI per week, only Fridays. I have commitments on Friday nights unfortunately. Also, the price I was told was only for two classes per week; unlimited costs $180 a month, with a year commitment. There's also a registration fee of $165. It comes with a gi, but I'm not really interested in gis lol. Also, Carlos didn't roll with the students while I was there. They have good people there that seem like they would be good training partners though. All in all, I don't think I'm gonna be committing to this place.

Hey Ross. I studied with Carlos Rollyson for about 5 years. He is an excellent teacher and a true master. Also a genuinely good guy. You know bragging about beating one of his students is sort of cheap in my opinion. I have never rolled with you so I have no idea of your skill level. You might be a world class athlete. The purple belt might have been 72 years old and paralyzed from the waist down. In any case it wasn't a competition. Maybe he was going easy on you and you caught him in a move he doesn't practice much. Believe me when I say that there were students that passed through that school in the past (and some that may still go there) that would give you stiff competition. Carlos Rollyson has absolutely nothing to prove to anyone. He does roll with students and he crushes. Shit he beat a Gracie that was 50 lbs heavier than him in professional competition back in the day. Yes, Carlos Rollyson believes in the Gi. There are many reasons that I do too. Maybe for MMA training without Gi the majority of the time makes sense but let me ask you... who do you know that has ever gotten into a fight wearing no shirt or spandex? Anyway for me training with a gi is much more fun. I love the feeling of choking people with my lapel from side control. lol. Anyway, thought I should get on here and defend my old school. You didn't say anything disrespectful but thought you still deserved a reply. Peace
