When I was a bluebelt I used to tell people that I let people pass my guard because I was super confident in my defense. I would go to tournaments and let dudes pass and start playing from there. About two years ago I was competing in the finals of a tournament and I got arm barred by this dude in like 45 seconds. I couldn't understand how I got arm barred because my defense was really good. But I didn't feel his arm Bar set up coming and I was not familiar with his attacks. I tell you this because I would not fall into the same trap that I fell in where I felt comfortable letting dudes take dominant positions on me. It's one thing to feel comfortable in bad positions when your opponent passes your guard and takes mount on you. But letting dudes take mount is a recipe for disaster when you go against better dudes. I know a few dudes who have insane mount games that I couldn't imagine just letting them take that position.
