Hello brothers and sisters, I hope all is beautiful :-) Mastering The System is the online instructional series of the unorthodox nogi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu style, "10th Planet Jiu Jitsu" filmed on location at 10p HeadQuarters. in downtown Los Angeles. For the past couple of years, if you're following the 10th Planet system, you've probably heard me preach many times about my favorite guard position, Muddy Waters. There's a really good reason for it, it's the absolute best way to set up an arm bar from the guard that I could come up with, plus it's the best guard position to unload elbows. UFC fighter Ben Saunders has been at 10pHq for the past month and we've been spending a lot of time polishing this position up and everyone at HQ and everyone that subscribes to MTS will benefit from Ben's training camp. Also in this episode I included some crucial leg lock counter material. When it comes to leg lock escapes, most leg lock experts have their own unique paths of defense. Some start out the same, like putting on the boot for instance or forcing a universal defensive angle, but from there all the leg lock masters that I bounce ideas off and dissect positions with, all give me different ways out. And I'm talking about super legit leg lock specialists like Dean Lister, Erik Paulson, Alan Belcher, Karen Darabedyan and Max Bishop. Then ad on top of that the defense my own in-house leg wizards offer me, like Nathan Orchard, Chris Herzog, Sean Applegate, Shigecki Matsuda, Eric Ramey and Adlai Cleveland and you got a mad plethora of ways out. The leg lock escape you are gonna learn in this episode however, is one that Eddie Cummings, the best lock locker on the planet, uses. I sat down with Cummings before EBI 5 and exchanged techniques and philosophies with him and tightened up this beautiful defensive move. It's an escape from the honey hole/saddle position, but even more than an escape, it's also a path that ends with your opponent in the honey hole, the exact position he was trying to get you in. It's a super high level escape/attack that requires a tremendous amount of reps to master before you can pull it off on a skilled heel hooker. If you're not unconscious with it, you might find yourself tapping instead of flipping the position on your opponent. So that's why I decided to put it at the end of warm up D3 to insure maximum reps. When it comes to mastering leg locks, Cummings says that professional leg pummeling is key and this flow is not only a great escape, not only a great attack but it also tightens up your leg pummeling skills.
