I.S.O.F. presents SUB ONLY WORLDS 2013 "The Welterweights"

On Saturday March 30, the International Submission Only Federation (ISOF) presents SUB ONLY WORLDS 2013 (SOW) the 170 division, at TAPOUT GYM in Downtown Los Angeles. We will be doing a different division every other month. It's same day weigh ins.

    20k grand prize.
15 minute matches. 20 minute final. No points, no advantages.

Draws end up in double DQ's. except in finals.

If there is an odd number of competitors that make it to the second round, the one with the fastest submission gets the bye. (Same for all rounds)

    Competiors can wear gi's.

    PPV streaming provided by BudoVideos
Yellow cards for stalling, 3 yellow cards and you are DQ'd.
Special overtime in the finals based on submissions.

So far Kron Gracie (Rickson Gracie), Marco Machado (check mat), Bill Cooper (Paragon), Samir Chantre (Ceasar Gracie), Sean Roberts (Ralph Gracie), Alberto Crane (Gracie Barra), Jason Manly (Gracie Fighter), Karin Darabedyan (Gokor), Gary Tonon (Renzo Gracie) and Enrico Cocco (Zen Jiu Jitsu) are on the list.

Who else would you like to see? :-)

There are already thousands of point tournaments, the world doesn't need another one.

Every single sub only match is not exciting, that is impossible, some will definitely suck, but overall, sub only matches, in my opinion, are WAY more entertaining than point matches.

I am implimenting yellow cards. If a ref feels that one competitor is clearly just holding on for a draw, he will issue a yellow card. At that point a new ref will take over. If that ref feels the competitor is still holding on for a draw then he will give a second yellow card. A new ref will take over. If that ref feels that he is still holding on for the draw then he gets DQ'd.

It's invite only but we are accepting applications. Contact dgonzales@subonlyworlds.com

I am not producing this event to make money or to promote 10th Planet. I am on a quest to create the most entertaining/exciting tournament possible. If we could raise enough money I would make it a million dollar grand prize. So far 20k is all I could come up with. The more successful this tournament is the higher the grand prize will be. Interested in sponsoring the event? For a sponsor PDF packet please contact Dawna dgonzales@subonlyworlds.com :-)

The goal for me is to do everything possible to make the matches as exciting as possible for the fans. "Urgency" for the submission, in my opinion, should be the main focus when designing the rules. No time limit matches put the competitors in more of a relaxed mind set, not as much urgency, less risks. Sure, 15 minutes is ALOT shorter than no time limit but it's not like a 7 or 8 minute match. 15 minute rounds, in my opinion, will ad ALOT of urgency, which should result in more entertaining matches and less relaxed mind sets. Plus, trying to get the quickest sub to get a bye in the second round ads even more urgency. Urgency = excitement :-)

Every competitor gets $500 to cover hotel and travel expenses

The finals will be 20 minutes. If time expires. We go into a soccer type "free kick" overtime situation. Each competitor gets to chose back control with both legs hooks or spider web aka arm bar position. The combatant with the quickest sub wins. If no subs, the combatant with the quickest escape wins. This will ensure that when a grappler is defending he doesn't just sit there t-rexxed. It's in his best interest to escape as fast as possible. Remember, fastest escape wins if no subs

I am trying to make this the most exciting tournament on the planet so naturally I am going after the best grapplers I can find, the elite. Most of the elite are black belts. There are only a few rising stars that are brown belts, famous brown belts, brown belts that are wreckin shop and blowin up, like Sean Roberts. He just let me know that he wants in so he's in

There will be 8 matches in the first round. The number 1 and 2 seeds will go against each other in the 8th match of the first round.

Why pit the top 2 guys together in the last match of the 1st round u ask? Let me explain.

The second round can have many different looks.

There could be only 2 competitors advancing to the 2nd round, resulting in the finals taking place right there in the 2nd round, or there could be 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 combatants advancing to the 2nd round.

But what if the first seven matches are all draws?

Well that means the 8th match, with the 2 best guys competing against each other, is automatically the finals.

This guarantees a bad ass super fight finals if there are zero subs in the first 7 matches.

So far Kron is the number one seed and Bill Cooper, IMO, is the second seed.

So no matter what happens in the first 7 matches the fans are guaranteed a super fight.

Did I mention everyone on the planet can watch this LIVE?? Budovideos.com is streaming it live

If the competitors wanna wear a gi, go for it, I don't mind, wear an Aikido outfit if that's what floats ur boat

In the finals overtime, in back control, losing both leg hooks stops the clock. But if you transition to an arm bar or triangle the clock continues to run. Going from back control to the mount or any kind of guard stops the clock. In spider web the clock stops when a fighter pulls his arm out of danger completely. Spider web to a triangle does not stop the clock. Spider to the back does not stop the clock. Spider web to the mount or any guard stops the clock. Back control to the truck does not stop the clock because one leg hook is still in.

Remember, in the overtime rounds, the fastest sub wins the 20k. If there are no subs the fastest escape wins the 20k. This will ensure that both competitors are in an urgent mind set no matter if they are playing offense or defense.

If after 7 matches there is only 1 submission, then that 8th match will be 15 minutes with overtime rounds to determine the finals match. That goes for any round where there is 1 match left in the round and there is only one competitor who has previously advanced in that round.

Remember the date, Saturday March 30, 2013

Was exciting matches in Rochester under those rules. Opened up guys games and created lots of back and forths and scrambles. And I believe the longest match was just over 4 minutes.

Awesome list so far. Michael Liera Jr would be a nice add or even better Andre Galvao if he can make the weight.
