New to the 10th Planet System

Hey everyone I just became a member of the 10th Planet system. A brief summary of juijitsu for me. I started training gi this past summer at Gracie Barra for about 3 months. As an avid UFC/mma fan I was never too interested in the gi but wanted to start training regardless. I definitely picked up on a lot of techniques and started gaining a good understanding of what was going on. It was time to head back to school and I wanted to keep training. That is when I met Jon R. who has been training the system for awhile and he pursued starting a grappling club here at the school. He's been teaching it ever since school started and I am slowly but surely starting to pick up the techniques being taught. I plan to start competing asap which will likely be taking place in the Pittsburgh area. BTW huge fan of Eddie Bravo, Joe Rogan, Cesar Gracie fight team, and Kron Gracie!

What is everyone's opinion on techniques that a beginner such as myself should really focus/concentrate on at this point?

I look forward to meeting you all. Questions, comments, advice are appreciated.

I generally advise new people to pay particular attention to positions, and transitions from one position to another. I think this can pay huge dividends down the road. As far as subs/sweeps, drill what's being taught in class for now, there'll be plenty of time to expand down the road. That's my take on it anyway.

    Welcome aboard!

Mastery of the warm ups is what HQ beginners start with. 80% of the warm ups are comprised of basic, yet crucial nogi jiu jitsu techniques and the remaining 20% is an array of ultra important advanced techniques that will end up becoming basic nogi techniques because they're included in the warm ups

I've had the pleasure of training with John Ellis a few times.
He is a fun guy to be around, eager to learn, and has a lot of potential as an athlete.

I look forward to our next training session.
I suggest mastering that Lockdown, brother.
