One thing to keep in mind is that the last name Gracie encompasses a HUGE family tree. Not all of them will share the same opinions and, like many of our families, contain a lot of drama a closed-door issues. Please keep that in mind and don't condemn all for he actions of the few.

That's probably it. Some of the Gracie's try to portray Helio Gracie as the creator of BJJ. He was important to the evolution of the game but he didn't create it. He never even trained with Mitsuyo Maeda. He learned from Carlos, Gustavo, Jorge and Gastao Gracie. I read in an interview with Renzo where if any one person could be called the creator of BJJ it's Rolls Gracie. I really wish we had a transparent history of sport.

good one lol, but there was an inside ufc or whatever where rener was showing how to get out of the twister with eddie. I thought it was a little weird seeing rener doing most of the talking and being present period but I can see how it was more of a marketing thing for the ufc maybe since maybe rener is more popular than eddie maybe. I wouldn't be surprised if eddie and rener had to pay the ufc just to show that, who knows, marketing is such a bitch.

Personally I think Maeda should be accepted as the creator of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as he's the one guy who everyone can trace there lineage to. I guess that wouldn't make Brazilian anymore though. He had a lot of challenge matches and it shaped his Judo, he taught it and his students have modified and improved it ever since, but it all started with him in my eyes. Luiz Franca learned from Maeda and has a non-gracie lineage of BJJ. The Gracie's don't really talk about him. Lol
