My name is Amber Kamischke and I am a white belt from 10P Chicago North. I started training jui-jitsu in the gi a year ago and switched to 10th planet last May. Our new gym will (hopefully) be only a block from my apartment soon and I cannot wait to train hard again since I have been out for a two months with a knee injury.

Knees suck! I tore my MCL last May during a takedown... My advice is return slowly and listen to your body. I came back and did tech, then easied into rolling. Make sure your training partners know of your injury so they can help you not reinjury it. I didn't roll with any "new" people for a bit because I was afraid to get hurt. I have GREAT training partner that to this day ask if my knee is okay AFTER they knee bar me (Dicks!) Simple movements to post or escape will frustrate the piss out of you.

Thanks for the advice! I fractured two ribs early in my jiu-jitsu career so I am no stranger to lingering injuries that take a while to heal. Fortunately for me, my boyfriend is my main drill partner so he won't let me come back too soon or will make me stop if he sees I am in pain even if I won't admit it. Our gym is in a transition period while waiting for our new space so it is the perfect time for me to rest and let it heal so when the move is final, I can hopefully start back slowly. I planned on competing at the end of January but that isn't looking good so I will focus on being back for one in March now.

Knees and ribs...I seperated a rib rolling. We may be in deep shit if the two of us ever roll!
(I may be in the Rock Island area later this year.)
Great to see more ladies training BJJ (oh,maybe I should say just JJ or MJJ or AJJ since we don't use a Gi ) joining 10th Planet, posting on the forums and even starting up open mats! Keep it up ladies and if you are ever in Cali swing by for a roll!
