Bonnie - Blue belt 10th Planet St. Paul
For the most part, I'm the only girl who trains consistently at my school. There is another chick who trains in the summer but is away at college the rest of the year. I was one of those who wanted nothing to do with jiu jitsu for years. Only wanted to box. It wasn't about self defense for me, it was just no interested in rolling around on the ground with random dudes. I hate to be touched, so jiu jitsu was the farthest thing from my mind. Now I wish I had started years earlier. Without having a few women who train consistently, I think it's hard to get more women interested. Especially in nogi. I've noticed there are more gi women's only classes/schools which seem to have enough chicks to remain open (Gracie Barra is a great example of separating men from women, which is stupid IMO).
