Questions on 1/4 guard counter + DO escape

Hi guys, just back from a comp over the weekend and I've got 2 burning questions that I can't get out of my head.
(Obviously, neither of these situations turned out too good for me )

    1. 1/4 guard (or mini stomp) counter
A typical 1/4 guard (or mini stomp) counter that gets me really stuck is when the opponent simply steps backwards and over to the other side (I'm not sure if this is called a "capoeira"?). From there, a strong dude can just use his hand to shove my legs down and get his leg out - while I have nothing else but just squeezing that mini stomp and delaying the inevitable.

The one and only "counter" I know is to spin along with the opponent as he steps over, hopefully getting a sweep - but if I miss this, it's almost surely a free pass for them.

    Any suggestions?

    2. Dead Orchard "brute force" escape
This is a less common issue, but again - does come up with physically strong opponents. Once I lock the DO in and start working the armbar, they'll stand up, lift me off the ground (with the arm extended) and shake me off. Next to impossible to do with gi pants on, but without them, the sweat definitely increases the chances of being shaken off.

Any way to counter this? (I've tried hooking the near leg, but opponents in the DO tend to put their far leg up first, so by the time their near leg is up, they're already almost standing and hooking it doesn't really make a difference - except that I've now just given up control of the arm that was previously trapped under my armpit).

Thanks for any and all tips guys!

I don't know, but here are some ideas.

Can you just finish the dead orchard in the air?

Here are some quarter guard back step counters, check out lucas leite's quarter guard game.

Good stuff, thanks! Looks like Lucas Leite's counter to the quarter guard back step is also an "in transition" move (a really good one) - seems like once your opponent has the back step, it's just a pretty bad place to be in.
