    All,

Just curious what everyone uses to clean their mats. Would a simple mixture of bleach and water do the trick?

We use Fabuloso and water it down a bit. The guys at the gym say to never use bleach.

I have 2 products I use on my mats at home (and around the entire house, I guess you could say you have a Jiu-Jitsu problem when you clean your house with Mat Cleaner). I use the Dollamur Mat Cleaner and Vert-2-Go pH Neutral Quaternary Disinfectant, they both have the same/similar active ingredients. I think that a diluted bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite 0.2-0.6%) even when very weak like pool water may cause the vinyl on the mats to break down faster.

Look up Technical Data Sheets for some popular Mat Cleaners to see what the active ingredients and pH are and then find substitutes for those. Generally unless shipping is an issue the Commercially available mat cleaners are reasonably priced.

I agree that the foot bath is a mandatory. No foot mung in your face.

There's a bunch of links to make your own mat cleaner. I use a 99.9% Lysol disinfectant, watered down. Lysol kills MRSA. I then go over afterwards with a watered down Fabuloso mix, just because it smells nice.

It's great for laundry when you can't get rid of the stank.
