    Competition rules

Why do I feel like 5 minutes is not enough?

5 minutes makes a scramble war. It's not enough time to work my guard. I obviously should be better, but there seems to be a new trend of takedown wins. Even I won today by a takedown in overtime (first point wins). I didn't feel satisfied. I work on my conditioning to last long, but 5 minutes feels like 30 seconds and I'm left wanting to battle more. I remember falling in love with jiu jitsu from Royce vs Sakuraba matches or early UFC where time wasn't the important thing because finishing was all that mattered. I wanna weather storms and wear my opponent down mentally and physically. But in 5 minutes its a quick position war and its done before I can enjoy it. Is it just me or do these grappling rules seem to favor the wrestlers?

I totally see your point. But if everyone got longer time, the competition would last for days. I think the key in this situation is to establish dominance early on. You need to attack and make your opponent play your game.
