Another reason not to train with a gi - CTP in the hands

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome from practicing BJJ with the gi - Symptoms

The most common symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome from gripping the gi are tingling, numbness, weakness, or pain felt in the fingers or, less commonly, in the palm. Symptoms most often occur in the parts of the hand supplied by the median nerve: the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and half of the ring finger.

I trained for years with the gi and have had these symptoms because of it.
It's one of the reasons I only train no gi now. A guy I use to train with by
the name of Mark Lion got this condition really bad. He developed a bad case
of arthritis in his hands from practicing with the gi.

The other thing about the gi is you have to constantly be washing them and
find them before you go and train. Now I just get in my car and go off to my
grappling studio without having to find my gi and wonder if I had washed it
    or not.

I still train with the gi once in awhile. I have found out that no-gi grappling has
improved my gi grappling. I find I have a stronger base now when I practice with
the gi because of my no-gi training. After not having all the possible grips with the gi from no-gi taining I find the gi training much easier.

I train in the gi, and my fingers hurt so bad in the morning. I can't even make a fist until I get warmed up.

I train in the gi and I incorporate forearm training in my weight training workouts. Also the only time I grab the gi is during stand up for throws.
